I don't know the guy, but I have the feeling you're making the area around the mouth too planar. Which also causes him to have a sort of duck-face.

Are you doing a quick likeness sculpt? because that sounds weird. Getting a likeness down is probably the hardest thing you could do.
I suggest spending time on him.
