New guy here, pimping a shiny gun

So I'm a long time lurker around these parts and I felt like now would be a good a time as any to start posting things. I've been working on a high poly version of this gun http://torvenius.deviantart.com/gallery/34209731?offset=24#/d2j2hc4 I'd say its about 80% done I did some renders to show off and hopefully get some critiques. Anyways here are the goods your looking for:

The biggest Issue I'm having is that the concept lacks detail on some of the finer bits, leaving me to make things up in those areas. This and not having front and back views has made this a challenge. Also I'm not confident in this guns functionality as far as the trigger slide and lack of a hammer etc, maybe you gun nuts could give me some Ideas on that.

I wouldn't sweat the slide and hammer as those could be internal. However I would consider adding a front site to compliment the rear site you have already built. In addition I might suggest you texture the grip to differentiate it from the rest of the "lower receiver." It's looking good!

Front site is definately on the to-do list, as for the grip I hadn't settled on how to go about detailing that without pulling hair out etc. I thought about adding detail via a normal after doing a low poly bake. Other tid bits: I'm Using 3ds max for the modelling and this is just under a half million polys as is

@brygelsmack: Yeah I started having lots of questions about the concept as I dug deeper in the modelling, the grip should probably be thinner for sure, but I thought about where the heck does the clip go lol

You could pull it into Zbrush and detail the hell out of it. But yeah, you could also generate it in Photoshop as long as you could avoid/deftly handle UV seams.

I think he might be referring to that bit in the back. To hold this your hand would have to go around that and then grasp the grip. To hold this like a pistol you would have your elbow sticking out in a bit of an awkward position for shooting.

Yeah this is my first gun so I'm learning the ropes, If I can't get the results I want with photoshop, I will try some sort of displacement pass but for now I'm gonna bang out that sight and figure out what to do about that attachment thingy, I really don't know what its purpose is really, too big for a laser pointer or flash light really. Idk, like I said its a pretty ambiguous concept.

Had a bit of time to mess with this after work so I added the barrel, its just a matter of finalizing the attachment thingy and filling in some gaps and the Hi-Poly will be finished.

i love the design however i find the front barrel hole too conventional for a futuristic weapon. have you thought about giving it a muzzle brake like this? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31GiYZk6LYL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

@Aga22 that is a cooler design, I'm pretty much done with the low poly so I'm gonna stick with what I've got but I will definitely try something like that in the future.

Low Poly is sitting at just above 4000 polys right now. Now its on to the part where my skill lack the most normal map baking. If I can pull this off there will definately be more guns in my future though.
