Hi just got some strange issues popping up (literally) when i start up max. These pesky tool bars pop up and lock into place. There rather annoying and even after i recently clean installed max it started again.

Any clues on how to stop this ;? It's really frustrating!

Try deleting your local settings directory of 3ds max.
'CDocuments and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsMax'

should reset the whole user interface

Nope its still happening...

Deleted the entire Auto desk folder at that location and they still pop-up.

I was met with the welcome screen which was rather alien at first but no changes. Rebinding keys now ;')

Any other possibilities/ suggestions people?

Do you have multiple monitors? Max has some WEIRD bugs with multi-monitor setups, such as windows permanently vanishing on clicking the titlebar unless you drag until the settings folder is nuked.

It seems to work fine on my desktop where the second screen is mapped to the right and down of the primary monitor, but not on my laptop where the second screen is up and left.

Ah, that is the problem then.
I swap continuously between three monitors depending what i'm doing.

I usually work on a 24ich and 18ich with max but i swap the 18 with a 56ich when I'm painting/watching films.

Thanks for the info James, i guess i cant do much about it then ;')

Ill try to macro out a script to hide all the widows at once.

It's not definite, it's just weird problems can happen. Try adjusting the layout or setting the leftmost display as your primary.
