3D Concept art

Hello.

I am doing project for Uni, and I need your help. Please answer to a few questions.

Name of the project is - Application of 3D software in concept art development.

These are concept sculpts made in Zbrush.
Both tanks are using meshes from one kit that I made.
I rendered them and overpainted in photoshop.

Questions:

-Is it too finished?

-Did it need texturing/rendering?

-Would you describe it as a model or a concept and what do you think are qualities and purpose of a 3D concept sculp?

Looks great. I don't think its too polished, and no - texturing and rendering would classify this as a model, not a concept ;D.

Coming along nicely. I dont think it looks too finished, maybe add some scratches or bits of wear and tear where the mechanics move. I agree with Nekhro, texturing and rendering would classify it as a model :P
I'd describe it as a concept due to it being a paint over. 3d Concept sculpts help get a sense of direction with a model to see where its going.

using 3d models for concepts make the lives of 3d artists easier as when they start modeling they already have a scene with the camera setup for exact matching. hawkprey used it alot if im not mistaken :

Keep at it , its looking good

, could use a bit more lightning in the volumes so that they are more noticable , like in the last image the volumes are obscured in shadow due to the materials true, but still makes its readability a tad harder.

I'd say the first ones definitely look like concept pieces, and work well. The last one that you posted looks a little more like a polished render but honestly I like it the most. Might just be that I like the design the best :P but I think they all work well especially as concepts. Only critique would be that these look like they're right off the line and haven't even been outside the factory yet. It's fine that way given that it is a concept but depending on the mood of what you're concepting for, you may want to think about adding some evidence that they've been outside like some dirt, or scratches or something. Just a thought! But again, I don't know the mood of the environment that these are going to be in. Good work and interesting concepts

Oh last thought, I really enjoy the three views that you have going in the top-right corner of the bike concept and think it would be cool to have that there for the rest as well maybe.

TBH the last one looks most like concept art, but you should use the mini grayscaled top/side/front everywhere as its nice addition to the concept.

If your concept art is being done in 3d, you should be able to easily include orthographic views as well. The other artists who take your concept and take it further in the production line will (should) thank you.
