2D Animations in Unreal 4 (Child of Light Style)

Hi guys,

I'm currently working on 2.5D sidescroller type thing in Unreal 4. I'm actually a game artist but I have dabbled in animation now and then.
The main character I am working on is two dimensional. Some separate elements are separated off into layers in photoshop.

Basically am looking to animate the main character in a similar manner to how the enemies are animated in Child of Light. I am completely aware that it was created on the UbiArt framework but Im hoping to create something similar in Unreal 4.

Does anyone have any tips or tutorials on how to animate this type of thing in 3DS MAX and then get it working in Unreal 4?

I know I seem a bit juvenile here but, from an animation standpoint, I have no idea what I'm doing hah!
