Problem with Mat assignment in Maya 2014

Eh all,

So I'm having this strange issue where I go to select some faces and assign a material to them, and it's all fine. But any faces after that if I select them, I can't assign the same material?? I can make a new material to assign, but not the material I used before??

A bug maybe? Or a messed up mesh? What are the best ways to try and pin-point the issue?

    If it is only having this issue within one scene then try exporting your objects and importing them into a new scene, if you still have the issue then the problem is with the asset most likely.

    If it does this for every scene, then maybe try a fresh install?
