Morris: how do you feel about news reports about Otaku being socially stunted shut ins? Using your own logic, that means manga, anime and Japanese games are bad.
The maddening thing about you is not that you don't like certain things, that's fine but you always have besmirch people who like things you don't like. I like the Elder Scrolls series, I must be an emotionally damaged shut-in that has to escape to fantasy land. Every time you join the hangout you mention One Piece, what horrible backstory is behind your need to escape to a nautical fantasy of pirates and magic fruit?

I told you beforehand, I thought that these hikikomori weren't productive people. More than often these fellows cannot deal with society as a whole and often just give up. That's no good, you have to have the strength to care on.
They don't really take the messages held within the shows and often fantasize about the ladies within the show; hence why I brought up the "dudes you wish you were and the girls you wish you could date" mantra. Also lurid figures are made due to that, that's no good at all.
Also by my said logic, I wouldn't classify animation from a certain area as bad; however I find certain genres of animation bad. Harem,eechi, and moe-highschool drama are escapist narratives based in fanservice, and that won't do at all.

There are well made platformers, and other games made in the US.
However there are a myriad of violent video games and woodland games as well.
There are good games made in Japan, yet there are lurid titles such "love plus" and bishojo games as well.
I am not so much jeering at the people, but the product.
Believe me, I read through a D20 book a long time ago, and all of the things that I thought looked rather interesting were marked as this evil or chaotic archetype, while everything good was either based off of average everyday mammals, dudes with beards, or pretty fellows. It just didn't appeal to me as much; and when I came here everyone sang it's praises.

The manga is out on Thursday, and the anime adaptation is sometime between Saturday and Sunday; hence these are usually topics of discussion, for me at least.

yes, now take that thought and imagine you're a "woodland fellow" or fan of any other genre you don't like. They like it because they like it. There is no deep psychological problem behind it.
there are shut-ins for every hobby. I'm sure there's a guy living in his mom's basement right now who's totally obsessed with One Piece.

But you need to stop categorizing everything in absolutes. It's really limiting your thinking.

That's no good; perhaps I have seen too much of the lazy side and of the whole fantasy fandom; but ignored the hardworking fellows on poylcount who are medieval fellows, who make detailed crafts.
Final Fantasy isn't woodland at all; even the early incarnations of the series had the player fighting robots, and high tech things in certain areas. It seemed to be a more displaced era sort of environment than a medieval fantasy; Final Fantasy 4 had hovercraft for goodness sake.

Up until the 2 year time skip there was hardly any fan service, there still isn't any shipping and there wasn't bishonen in sight either. Not a fan of Nami's new design at all.

While trying to broaden my horizons on such things I happened upon a title called "Heroes of the Storm" by these frozen Blizzard fellows everyone seems to rave about.
It doesn't seem as woodland as the other titles I viewed, to tell you the truth it seems more akin to He-MAN,Pirates of Dark Water, or Mighty Max than a woodland tale. This seems most interesting indeed.
