modo equivalent to XSI "tweak tool" ?

I am wondering, i used to use XSI and i got really used to a tool called tweak tool, which had a mode where you could move elements around without changing the mesh surface curvature (it was a magnet icon). If anybody is familiar with Vitaly Bulgarov's Gnommon character creation DVD he uses it all the time.
now i am using MODO and have been looking for a comparable tool. any Modo users out there know of something similar?
Ive had some trouble finding a video that shows what im talking about, this one mentions it, although its not a great demonstration of the functionality. the relevant portion is at 1:02

There's no direct tool for this, but you could duplicate the mesh and use the tweak tool with background constraint enabled to get a similar result.
@Farfarer thats the best suggestion ive heard yet, but sounds extremely combersome! ill look into it. maybe with some scripting it could work.

@Lawless Flogic - Sorry, I think I misread what you were asking for. I don't know of any tool in modo that does that.
