This is DayZ, this is your story.
DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal:
to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can.
Players can live through powerful events and emotions arising from the ever-evolving emergent gameplay.
There are no superficial helpers, or waypoints, no built in tutorial or support given to players.
Every decision matters, every mistake can be lethal.
There are no save games, no lives. If you fail,
you lose it all and you need to play again from the beginning with nothing but your wits, and your two hands.
Fight the hostile environment, where every other player can be friend or foe and nothing can be taken for granted.

Hope it was worth the wait!

The game is cheaper on the bohemia interactive store right now!
https://store.bistudio.com/dayz

Also Ive found lots of people not being able to get a daytime server, The time is local to the server so if you go to the search settings and change to look for servers with a ping of 300 and not just 100 then you can connect to America or Oz. Hope this helps!

Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like you mistook 21.77 euros as usd on the bohemia site. Anyways awesome, wish the project luck.

The screens look really good for an Alpha...I can't invest in it right now, but I'll be looking forward to the final release.

Only if you kept up with the development. How about this question instead.. Why didn't they? Were they offered but would require too much rewrite from the mod conversion? Was the pricing too high? Arma developers contracts would not allow the under development Arma III engine being used for anything but?

Either case I am still interested to see this do well.

Played a ton of the DayZ mod and totally love it, in the early days anyway, before it became "shoot on sight" fest. For me the best part of the game is the intense psychology that comes when meeting strangers and figuring out if they should be trusted or not before shooting.

I'm holding off from buying this though until I see more on it. I really hope they can come up with a way to stop the shoot on sight mentality and get people working together while still retaining the ability for players to chose become a bandit. Its a tough problem to solve though. There are some good mods for DayZ that encourage team play (Origins) but I've heard that the standalone will not support modding (Correct me if im wrong) so hopefully they'll add elements of the mods into this version.

Heres one of the vids I did in DayZ and its probably the most intense time i've ever had in any game EVER!... Before making this vid I had probably play about 150+hrs of playing the "good Samaritan" role, crawling through woodland, helping others and hunting bandits. In this I decided to try going bandit for a change and honestly my heart nearly jumped out of my chest while doing this one. It felt like a completely different game. I don't condone being a bandit but I have to admit its awesome fun.

I could be mistaken, the two have been under development in kind of a parallel way - borrowing and trading when needed.

    Just saw some gameplay

This is all rocket has to show for 2 years? lol ok

Maybe if the game actually used my gpu like all the others itd feel less clunky too. The saddest part is people thinking rocket can optimize the engine when he isn't an engine developer. The engine needs to be rebuilt from the ground up but Arma was never popular enough to fund such a project. Maybe DayZ can though.

With that said ill still get it most likely for shits and giggles with friends, but I think Rust has a much better chance of going further. Either way I can't wait until this survival fad is over

I'm glad it's playable for the people who were waiting so long for it but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of the game. Some friends convinced me to buy(waste) like $30 on ARMA 2 and the expansion just for DayZ. I ended up installing all of it, playing about 20 minutes, then uninstalling all of it without touching either DayZ or ARMA 2 again.

It just felt so damn clunky and slow paced, but to each their own.

Kind of 50/50 at the moment, I'd rather wait and see what they do.
I too am disappointed at them not moving to ARMA 3s engine, and the game still looks weird and clunky, but who knows, it might all change.

Bought it yesterday and couldn't find a single server, is this an issue or just some oversight from my side?

I was positive that this was using the arma 3 engine but that's not the case? Either way it's going to be exciting to see what they add in next.

You need to change the server list to internet Cexar - For some reason it defaults to lan :|

I tried to avoid riding the hype train even though I think the mod gave me some of the best experiences I've ever had in games, but the alpha has really, really impressed me. Everything that I've seen looks like it's heading in the right direction.

    Also: LOOT!

I've been watching the gameplay videos and i couldn't agree more with you Dave.

The crafting system looks really good and the additional skin tones and equipment will really help to give it a personal feel. I hope they are able to integrate other face textures beyond the base one.

Why? I want it to become a new genre. I played DayZ heavily until my friends and I tried out WarZ, the better zombies and melee made it way more fun even though it had a crappy cash shop and rampant hacking. I wish DayZ luck but I hope they make major improvements and count their blessings that WarZ had such a bad rep that many people didn't even try it.

I like WarZ enough to make a shitty let's play video

I don't see anyone really checking zombies for loot. Did Dean take that out or is it not worth it? I love the cars that you can search and it looks like most if not all of the buildings are open.

Bought this, but after an hour or so I found myself going back to Rust for my survival needs. Also in early access, it captures that special something I got when DayZ mod was first released.

Is it still pointless to use guns on zombies? I remember being frustrated in the mod that shooting in a town was never a good option; and clearing a town completely was pointless because of the high respawn rates, generic loot and ammunition cost. Plus, zombies were quite buggy, shooting them would sometimes do nothing. Sometimes their animations would be erratic, making them hard to hit. And vehicles were quite easy to damage too, which was a shame (And there were some weird and hilarious bugs with them). Add on top of this the hackers/technical issues and sometimes it was just too much hassle. If you could properly organise/retrieve crossbow bolts (and actually hit zombies with it) then that would be pretty damn useful.

Also I thought it weird that the VSS Vintorez wasn't included from base ARMA2 in the mod, since that's clearly the ultimate zombie killing rifle.

I've spent a few hours running around the standalone. So far, I'm mostly happy with what they're doing. I think for the general survival aspect, they're doing really good things that'll really help the game's depth, though the balance of that right now is I've died more from not being able to find food/something to open the food with, than zombie/player attacks.

Looking forward to them fixing stuff up, but it's alpha so I can hardly complain. With the stuff they've put together so far, I've high hopes for where this game will end up.

they put in a server timer that increases if you try and leave and join a server too often. they also put a bug that makes it when you die if you try and rejoin the server it loads you in as dead, so you have to keep login in an out untill that gets fixxed! and the timer increases every time!! i got a 400 second wait now till i can atempt an most likely fail to get back into my server that i'm paying to rent.

I've only played a tiny bit of dayz (three hours maybe?) and that was recently. They still do, on occasion, but it's way way better than it was. You can shut zombies in a house to trap them but the do glitch out some of the time anyway.

It's a feature! What's spookier than ghost zombies??

Jokes aside I think it's getting better, they are working on nav paths for zombies slowly I think.
