UDK - Height map breaks when I save package

This is a weird one. I have to use UDK for university and I'm trying to make a height map for my floor tiles.

I created the black and white alpha, stuck it in the normal, saved it out as a 32 bit .tga then imported it in to UDK. I used TC_NormalmapAlpha and applied the alpha channel to a BumpOffset which connected to my diffuse and normal.

That's correct right? It should be, because it looked PERFECT until I saved the package. Then it just vanished and the only way to get it back is to create a whole new material. Then I save and it's gone again. It just stops recognising the alpha and bumps the whole thing.
