Hello Polycount,

I have been working mostly in commercials, but want to give game assets a go, as I generally find games much more interesting than commercials - shockingly!

However, I realized I know less than nothing about the technical approach to making a model, but just threw myself at it and hoped for the best.

This is the outcome of my first attempt at making a model.
It seems that 4k should have been able to look quite a bit better than what I have here, judging from what I have seen on these forums.
Any advice and feedback on how to improve, will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

It's reaaaally hard to see whats going on with the black background and dark lighting. Also a hi-Rez upclose photo would be sweet as the dickens.

Thanks for taking the time to give feedback, guys!
I edited the first post with a higher res image with more lighting and on a neutral gray background. Does this help readability?

you should put some specular highlights around the edges of the metal.
Looking for work.

also maybe add some normal map damage to the metal and paint in the specular highlights for that.

Also right now your texture colors are very blocky, e.g. for the armor, it would be better to break it up a bit with dirt, etc. Spec highlights need work too as Snake mentioned, but its getting there!

Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it!
Yeah, actually the high poly mesh is "clean" with no dumps or scratches. it was something I decided to do in the texturing phase. Is there a good method of getting that into the normal map, or should I remake/tweak the diff and spec maps after I have made changes to the normal map?
Hopefully I can get these updates done over the weekend
