Ok so Ive been wondering after looking at all my UV failures how do you all UV unwrap your models which program and would you direct me to any tutorials thanks

Ha, I just mentioned this in another post.

Roadkill is a free option - it's what I use.

Headus UVLayout is another one, not free but in my own opinion it's better than RoadKill. (I'm not saying RoadKill is bad).

My only issue with Headus, and the reason I stopped using it was because if I spent a month or more away from it, I'd completely forget the hotkeys, and it's very hot-key dependant. Which is both a blessing and a curse.

Also, it's worth noting... that Max's (if you're using it?) default unwrapping tools are more than enough to get the job done. I mostly use just 4 parts of it. Planar Mapping, Relax, Break and Stitch (you'll want to hot-key stitch). Seriously... there is very little you can't do with those.

I agree, the unwrapping tools in Max 2012 are actually very good. Modo's UV tools are really nice too - I use them for all of my work these days.
