How to build this in max ?

Hey guys,
Can someone help me out with an good advice how to build a scaffold plane "canvas" ?
It's a bit hard to create this crinkles and waves on the canvas just using max...
Is it a good idea to use the cloth moddifier for this purpose ?

You can ... probably. I think the more common answer would be to use ZBrush and sculpt the folds.

hmm ok... any way to do this without zbrush just by max? I was also thinking to use the demo of marvelous designer for this?

Take a plane, increase the subdivisions. Use the sculpt tool to make the folds.

Then bake the normal map. Done!

You could also probably use displacement maps to generate the HP in max.

Couldn't you just find some good material reference images and run it through a normal map program like nDo or b2m? Then map these onto some planes with a bit of low frequency noise. It might not look as good as sculpting it but it is an option.

I think you'd get the most realistic results using Marvelous Designer.

Cloth modifier is perfect for this. You can take it into zbrush to do some finetuning but i wouldn't bother doing the whole thing in zbrush. It's much easier and faster with cloth modifier.

Thanx for the answer guys! I'm playing right now with marvelous designer, sculpting in max and the cloth moddifier arround, i will see what gives me the best result.

You really should use http://www.marvelousdesigner.com/, if you can't use 3ds max's cloth.
