Zbrush: Noisemaker Rendering

So I have these pants to which I want to add some noisemaker detail. Ideally I'd like to do it without bumping the polycount up millions just so the mesh can hold the detail, so what you're lookin at is NOT applied to the mesh.

This happens when I hit the render button:

Is there anyway to avoid/fix it or should I stop trying to outsmart my tools?

    All that typing and I figured it out myself.

    For reference: it was because I had the strength of my mask set to a negative number. Zbrush apparently applies the noisemaker pattern at render time as if you were applying it to the mesh, so the logical transformations occurred.

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh well.
