Finally decided to post a speed model.
Done in Zbrush. 30 minutes total work with likke 5 minutes comp.

Obviously it's only useful for this kind of explicitly shaped object, and it can lag a lot with lots of booleans stacked up, but it's fast, non destructive and you get a low poly almost for free

Hey is there somewhere that describes this method more thoroughly? Sub-d modelling isn't something I really have much experience in or really enjoy but is an area I feel I should probably develop in. I've also been planning to get to grip with blender soon so this is really interesting to me.

I haven't seen anyone else use this method in Blender, I just had the idea one day. It's not really sub-d modelling but you can get the initial shapes with sub-d, before doing boolean.

Anatomy sculpting - head was already pre-built for something else I'm working on.
Body sculpting and posing around 2 hours.
