I love game jams (and what comes of them) and this one looks like it's going to be pretty big. There's a prize fund of $2500 which is kind of nice, but more interesting is the panel of judges - Notch, Yahtzee, Ron Gilbert, Trent Oster, Jason Rohrer, Vander Caballero, Kellee Santiago and Dino Patti.

Anyone else looking forwards to the results?

Also, I may be game for joining this one if there are any savvy environment artists who want to partner up :)?

I'm not one of those guys but.... this is the most commercial indie jam I've seen yet. I have a feeling the best entries will come out of Ludum Dare 25, which is happening next weekend.

Ambershee -- when were you eyeballing, timeframewise? I'm eyeballing Tuesday/Wednesday myself.

I work a full time job, so I'm only free on weekends. I could do it on the weekend of the 22nd or between Christmas and New Year.

FYI, I'm a technical and would handle programming. My weapon of choice would be UDK as I've worked with it for years and can iterate very quickly with it.

I know what you mean about commercialised, the entry fee is unusual and steep. I'm hoping the prize money will turn out some decent entries though.

Ludum Dare 25 is sadly on a weekend that I'm not available as I have other places to be.

Heh, yeah, that's a perk of being currently unemployed, I supposed. Unfortunately, that weekend I'm having the mother-in-law coming into town for a visit, so it's a nogo for me...otherwise I would have been down--UDK is my tool of choice as well these days though.

Well, best of luck to you if you decide to enter!

Personally, I feel the entry fee is pretty lame so I won't participate.

Instead I will make a game for the http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ again.
I made a game for the previous one and had a good time. It's intense but fun :)

So I just finished up a game with the indiespeedrun..my first jam!! It was a lot of fun and they make the submission process pretty easy...the entry fee is a bit too steep, but having a fee is a good thing, I think, as it keeps people serious about entering. I think they could have had the same seriousness with 10-15 bucks an entry though..

I finished last night, but man, I'm still exhausted.. I think I put in 36-8 hours or so total?

Awesome! Did it go well and what were your randomly selected themes like? I'm doing it next week with one other guy, so we'll see how things go :)

It went well! My random theme was 'construction' and my element was 'ninjas'. I think the game I made turned out decent enough for a 48 hour scramble, but boy did I make some ugly art and even uglier code!

Ooh, the themes are quite particular. I was hoping they'd be more abstract in nature.

me too--though ive seen themes like "Evolution" and such...and even with"construction" you could take that a LOT of ways...like, it could be a game where you build things or it could just be set in a construction site, or it could be about the abstract nature of constructive versus destructive people, etc. The 'elements' though are pretty specific. I called my game "Hard Had Ninja!"

    We've literally just finished!

Our theme was 'Miscommunication' and the element was 'Concert'. Got dealt a real shitter there.

    "The Unpolished Turd"

nice! congrats Ambershee! That's a really tough theme/element combo to work with. Who'd you end up partnering with?
