if you're using UDK then get the starter content and disect it. A lot can be learnt (or be confused by) if you look at the existing stuff that's in there. https://www.imbuefx.com/ is nice for some free or fairly cheap tips on UDK. other than that the unreal engine forums are probably your best friend
