Hey guys,

Slightly O/T here but I know there's probably a lot of you here who've faced this same problem and likely come up with ingenious solutions.

I've just bought my first house, and inevitably (being male) the first thing I'm thinking about is how to hook up my home theatre system.

Since the house is bought and not rented, we're free to get busy with the power tools, although the house is actually a new build so I don't want to screw things up too much.

I want to have my TV mounted on the wall, but I have no idea of the best way to hide the cables. I don't have access to the rear of either of the walls I'm planning to mount a TV on, one is timber stud with a plasterboard skim, the other is a blockwork external wall again with a plasterboard skim.

I'm assuming I will need a power cable, and then multiple HDMI cables to the various sources, and I'm not sure where to mount them either yet. Ideally I'd like to mount the speakers up on the wall too, which will obviously have cables going to them as well.

Any tips/advice/suggestions on how to do this neatly and relatively easily? I'm happy to DIY but I'm certainly no builder.

Here is what I would do if I could drill holes in my wall:

Plan out your living room well when you wall mount stuff, means buying furniture and all that jazz. A friend of mine did that and after two years wanted to move stuff around.

Ace-Angel- Yeah I dig that, I remember seeing someone who'd done something similar in the shape of vines/branches. My better half probably wouldn't go for it though - 'why are the cables all messy on the wall like that'.

Lamont - Ah yes good thinking, we actually haven't decided that in the living room. Fortunately the bedroom is shaped in such a way that the TV could only really go on one wall since there's a window on another, and the bed will only fit one way round.

you can get these kind of rectangular channels that attach to the wall that hides your cables. To make it blend better you could paint it to match the wall color.
