baking AO for concave/closed objects?

so yeah i have a complex object which is basically a vehicle interior, and im trying to bake AO for it but it just comes out like 90% black...
anyone have any good techniques for this?
im using 3ds max and rendering with scanline (RTT)

You need to limit your ray distance. Another option would be to scale your meshes at rendertime, xNormal can do this.

can i limit the raydistance in scanline? i think ive looked through the light tracer options earlier and there isnt anything like that in there...
