The assignment is to create a weapon or a vehicle. I chose do do a smith and wesson .500 magnum. I also have to do another handgun along side this. But here is my progress so far.

I am going to fix up the flow of the purple part.

I'm assuming you started by drawing a spline around different parts of the gun but I would suggest that you start with a cube and work with square polys.

The general workflow is High poly > Low Poly > UV > Bake > Texture

creating a highpoly from what you have here would take longer to retopo rather than starting with a rectangle.

Although everyone is entitled to there own workflow, I'm just suggesting my method of approach to this project would be.

good luck on this!

Well for starters I would recommend ditching the purple part completely and redoing it with some good old box modeling. I really don't know how you got to this stage, but yeah that topology looks fucked up to say the least. Block the shapes first and then go into details. Is this going to end up being a low poly model or only high poly?

Good luck

Guilty as charged. My teacher said the same thing. I'm doing the box modeling right now. All of the other splines I can easily fix the topo on it manually but the purple piece is just fucked XD

Redid what used to be the purple part. Hammer and then the block-out will be done.

I would work on the handle and post the work on that. Nothing much to judge.

Chill out dpadam, he's a noob, so slow is ok.

Rich: The body looks better, since it is now modeled with some sense in minde, it'll be much easier to add in supporting edge loops when subdividing later. It would be a good idea to post a 3/4 view with ref so we can give better advice. Keep going

Lol our class is like a family so we go for harsh crits and I've had way worse said to me. I actually started reworking the handle and the trigger. I also fix computers in my dorm so work gets a little slow. Thank you for your advice shrew and i'll upload that once my handle is reworked. This is also the first gun I've done so I'm trying to get it as close as possible. As my teacher said "If you do it right the first time, something must be wrong. You cant learn if you don't screw it up a couple of times."

Been busy with a few things, this is due on Tuesday so time to do the hammer and trigger. Then low poly and texturing.

You should try and round out that handle. It's still pretty flat. Best of luck man
