Low Poly Hand Drawn Facial Animation

Hey everyone.

Thanks for stopping by.

I have a question. I have made maps for my low-poly mesh, but now, I think I want to go even lower poly.

I have seen in numerous games where low-poly characters have hand-drawn facial animations.

Is this achieved by creating a .mp4 and mapping a video to the animation? And if so, is there a better way to do it?

Here is the character. She's way over count- 500 tris or so. Don't even get me started on the hair or the eyeballs. The hair is already getting chucked for some strategically placed opacities. I'd like to cut out the need for blinking eyes or an opening mouth. I'd rather draw it and save on geometry.

Thanks for checking this thread out, and if you have any pointers on my topography, I am willing to learn some new judo chops. My sincere apologies to people who hate thread starters. Hopefully I put this in the right place. Heh... doubtful.
