Uh oh, here comes the most viewed Dota 2 subforum thread. ;) Mount is looking awesome - my only "complaint" if you want to call it...maybe this will be more obvious when you get around to texturing but is the face supposed to be part of it's head or is it a mask? Right now it kind of looks like a cat mask on top of some type of bat-beast with fangs. I think it would either help to smooth out the line below its cheeks to make it obvious that it's one piece or else add some "fur" to the jaw or decrease the fur in the head. Or...if this IS supposed to be a mask then that's awesome, and I'm sure it will be obvious with color.

Woah thanks guys!

I'm glad you liked the vids, lenny! I'm hoping its helpful to people learning more advanced techniques to modeling.

Zaubereis: yeah now I can't unsee the cat mask now! Dammit! I'll try to ake it a bit better. I've separated the fur colour from the skin colour. I hope that helps or maybe it makes it worse. Argh! I have a long way to go with the textures but its a good point I will keep in mind! Thanks!

Cheers Jeff!

Alright now for the Textures on this cat bat. Started laying out the basic blockout colours thismorning. Always the hardest part.

Here I have also added the black and white values of the original vs my bat. I often to this while planning out colours to make sure the values are similar to the original, for the most part.

Trying to make it the same yet different, very hard! haha

So glad the fbx importer is working again! The bat is just on a default skin. I haven't weighted it properly yet!

valve had this to say bout our bat

Quote:
The only thing we'd suggest now is to take the fleshy brown part of the wings and am up the color more in the direction of Batrider's mohawk. Look at the default bat for an example of the brightness we're talking about. The contrast helps track the wing motion. The artists feel a bit more brightness on the flesh will help the bat pop, particularly on the dire side.
looks like high contrast is the way to go

Posting in a legendary dota thread! :o

I've been watching your stream when I can Anuxinamoon, it's pretty motivating, but it comes on about 12am UK time :*(

I have a crit for the cat-bat: The grey fur around the eyes isn't reading too well to me. At first I thought it was a stone mask or something, for two reasons I think. Mainly its the dark shadows around the eyes. It looks like a flat surface and makes a sort of material difference. I think painting some dim fur 'highlights' in the shadow would help alot. There's also a big difference in material between the jaw and the face - maybe the jaw needs to look more furry?

edit: Here's a paintover from your stream.

Forgive the crappy mouse drawing, I'm at work, but thats the gist of what I meant.

Great looking weapon for Centaur! I'm really bad at chosing weapon names as well, but just call it something. Valve will make their own names if they don't like it ;)

Also that Storm spirit hat is looking great, really fits the character really well. Great work as always!
