Ok. So i downloaded it on desktop, drag the *.mzp in my 3ds max, install 3ptools and MS C++ RP, and then i restart 3ds max the error dialog appear it says:
Code:
DLL <C:\USERS\FishMan\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\2010 - 64bit\enu\plugins\3ptools Lite\3ptools_max2010-64.gup> failed to initialize.
Error code 126 - specified module can't be found
So i press ok, after 3ds max has loaded another error window has appeared:
Code:
MAXScript Auto-Load Script Error
--Compile Error: Undeclared variable: P3D_3ptoolsLite
So the tool is not working...

There is not much instructions to follow...

holy crap this looks sooo useful, like it should have been in all 3D programs ages ago but no one really did it yet.

Thanks for the info, Fishman. Please download the 1.01 update that was released yesterday and let us know if that solves your problems.
Send any future bug-reports to support@3pointstudios.com
I suggest removing the text logs from your post there to avoid any security issues of exposing your appdata paths.

I've been using this for a few hours and I'm blown away by how much it rocks, amazing work guys.
Things I like:
The active plane preview in the lower right corner, very helpful.
The tool itself is great very intuitive and easy to use.
I like the snapping to connect edges.
I like that it recalcuates poly strips and collapses them down if you happen to stutter a bit with the mouse near an edge that you're trying to snap to.
Things I'm not fond of:
- The brush size is controlled through button not with standard max brush size controls.
Not only do you have to break flow and move to a button. The cursor hides under the toolbar so its hard to see the size unless you are working with a really big brush and it pokes out from underneath, or you click the button and move the mouse to check the size. This is clunky and more troublesome than it needs to be.
It doesn't seem like you guys are using Ctrl-Alt for anything so why not use that to control the brush size like every other brush tool in max (paint skin weights, viewport canvas, brush relax, ect...). If you are using ctrl-alt for something (or plan to in the future) maybe a toggle mode that suspends painting until you work out the brush settings, then exit the mode and it applies? It would help keep the creative flow focused on where you are working and it would be a more elegant solution, plus it would be something people already know and go to intuitively, I know I did.
Things I wish it could do:
- Refocus viewport on a specific point.
To do this I need to exit the tool, pick something like a poly, then refocus and then turn the tool back on, it just breaks the great creative flow that is going on when using the tool. It seem like you should be able to hover over an edge, vert, face, refocus and it uses that edge but it uses the whole model.
Broken please fix:
- Exiting subobject mode should toggle the tool off. If I leave the tool on and exit sub-object mode and click on another mesh it adds it to the selection like I'm holding shift and selecting multiple things. Which doesn't give me access to sub-object mode which means I can't paint if I tried. Then I can't shut it off until I select the original object. Kind of confusing, I should always be able to shut it off and it should exit upon leaving sub-object mode.
As cool as the lower right plane preview is, it seems to disappear quite often and the only want get it back is to play with the viewport =/

This is crap, I just bought myself a new mouse, and now I have to start using wacom in 3DS Max, I hate you guys!
Hehe, damn it looks like something that can be REALLY nice if you want to quickly make edge loops, and such.

Steppenwolf: You are right. SHIFT-constrained lines should shorten, not double back on themselves. We'll look into this.
ace-angel: Pro release is mainly just waiting for us to get a decent amount of Lite feedback and sort out possible bug reports. You're not going to be waiting for long
El Electron: It would be good to know exactly what feels imprecise to you. That may even be an input bug, so any information is helpful, especially images or video of the issues.
Mark Dygert: Now that's quality feedback! Much appreciated. So, as you can imagine, this being a cut-down version of the tool has a lot of impact on workflow. I'll try to respond without getting into Pro version specifics.
Brush size control: You'll definitely want to assign keyboard shortcuts to those, like in Photoshop.
Subobject mode toggle: Cheers, definitely a bug. I think it might have snuck its way in right before release, will look into that.
Plane preview disappearing: Could you post your Configure Direct3D->Window Updates settings and max version? I believe the general rule is we can only update the gizmo when the mouse is moving, but I haven't experienced it actually disappearing.
Please keep the feedback coming, people. Also looking forward to you getting your head around the new thinking and posting some awesome artwork!

Nice tool! I've been wanting something like this for years... even tried to script something up a while back.
As far as the plane updating, shouldn't that be updated only when the view changes or when the user chooses to work on the other axis with the modifier key? I had problems with a workplane script I was writing when constantly updating ever frame and changing to only update when the viewport is rotated through a callback script fixed those issues.
I haven't got a chance to really use this yet but one thing that has bugged me so far is not being able to right click and end the tool like every other tool in max. Any reasoning behind this?

Not so much an input bug as a user error Had another go with it tonight and i think i'm getting the hang of it.
Used in conjunction with some of the graphite free form tools it feels really nice. In particular optimize and the topology tools in screen space mode as well as shift, pull, pinch and relax. Getting nice results fast.
Good job guys, took me a while to get my head around it but this is a big deal. Cant wait for the pro version.

It looks like very promising.
Anyways, I installed it without problem, also i get on screen the tools windos and the reference planes.
But the pointer it's missing and the tool is not working, any idea how to fix it?
I have re instaled several times on 3DS MAX 2012 64x on Windos seven.
Cheers!

Help us help you: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showp...0&postcount=41
Think of it this way: You couldn't just call your doctor, tell him "I'm sick" and expect him to send you the correct medicines.
It's the same with our support: We can't help you based on "the tool is not working", as that does not provide us with any relevant information.
Please keep these things in mind before sending in an error report. Also, make sure you're in epoly sub-object mode.
Thanks.

Yeah I understand.
But it's the only data I have
The instalation It's ok, without any errors.
When i start max all seems to be ok, the tool menu its there.
The pointer of the tool doesn't appear on screen when i press the brush button and I have no other feedback from the tool.
Im in the poly edit mode, and the references planes are working but I cant create any planes at all.
Without the pointer working ,seems the tool isn't running.
I have 3ds max 2012 64x running on Windos Seven
Maybe I have to wait to a new update
Anyways, seems to be a great tool.
Thanks and keep the good work!

I don't think I'll ever end up using the Bridge command in Max again. Fantastic tool, great work!

Hi Bryan, intended to get back to you earlier... As far as I know the reason the gizmo doesn't always update is a max limitation. I guess it would be possible to put it on a timer, but from my experience it's best to avoid that unless people very much depend on the functionality. In my experience you get used to navigation fast and don't need the plane preview anymore. I'm just pulling the tech stuff out of nowhere here, only Christoph can really say.
Right click brings up the Quad menu instead of escaping the tool, which will make more sense when you see the pro version, where you can get a great deal of operations done without ever leaving the tool, and in that case it got really annoying not to have the Quad menu on right click (the default operation was as you suggest).
I can definitely see how that gets annoying with Lite, we just want to avoid two different codepaths for the tools (Lite = Pro with IFNDEFs, so certain code just isn't compiled for that version)

Very fun tool so far. I'm seeing a lot of uses for this, so thanks.
I've run into a bit of a problem, though. I'm running max2010 64bit, and when making new branches from the initial flat plane, it wants to twist the poly to face the opposite direction for some reason.
As an experiment, I made a strip, deleted the twisted portion, and flipped the faces to face the correct direction. I then tried to connect them, and it still twisted.
Another experiment was to see if it was the symmetry modifier causing it. Deleted the modifier, and still have the issue.
Here's a shot of what I'm talking about :
Sorry if this was already covered, but I didn't see it if it was.

Jeremy, that's an odd one. Thanks for letting us know. Can you upload that as a Max file somewhere or send it to support?
What RCS are you in and does changing RCS fix the problem?
