Giles: The charcoal brush stuff is helping you chisel out better 3d forms, but go back in and clean it up afterwards! You dont have to crush down all the texture, but define the edges between each form!

Cheers joseph, here's the horse cleaned up a bit with the lassoo, looks a lot better i think.
