Wasn't sure if this was gonna get finished in a reasonable amount of time so i didn't start a thread. (work gets in the way)

But anywho, after working in zbrush for awhile and doin organics and fabrics i've been getting an itchy boner for hard surface stuff and thought i'd show a weapon i'm workin on.

There's a few things i need to go back and fix up and i'll show a nice sub'd model tomorrow or this weekend hopefully.

Wow, this is looking really good man. I'm looking forward to the bake. Are you planning on using 3ds max's built in texture baker or an external one like xNormal?

Also, when you wrote, "i've been getting an itchy boner for hard surface stuff", I literally laughed out loud. Good sense of humor lol.

thanks FractaL i'm glad you like it. I can't wait to get this to the LP and texture it. For the bake I will probably just use max. It produces better results than xnormal but is A LOT slower.

update so far

so i have a question for when i do my textures. I'm wondering what video games do these days for addons like scopes and lasers and other other things. Are all the addons put onto one texture (or as few texture sheets as possible) or do the addons each get it's own unique texture?

tac0m good question. i also was a bit curious about that so i check out how guns in Deus Ex Human Revolution are textured. it seems that the silencer is textured on a different texture than the gun. u see the textures here :

u can check out textures used in game using TexMod (its free). i think it helps a lot to study and learn how textures are made.

here is more information about TexMod: http://www.fileplanet.com/205418/200...o/Texmod-v0.9b

As a rule, it depends? If you can fit it on the same weapon UV's and *otherwise* it will be wasted space on the main uv, then sure put them on there? But usually, its a bit better to have them on different sheets, that way you know that if its not wanted, its not loaded - Period.

Of course thats more draw calls... But then, if you're worrying over one or two more, then ooosh!

It all depends on the game/engine/turtle tbh. I've always gone with different maps, due to various reasons.
