Planning on doing a series of paintings for a game concept - just a quick study of colour for one of the locations.

Working on this technomage character. So far is it an anatomical study / dummy:

Will pose him and equip with awesome gear - stay tuned.

P.S is it me or frontal has problems with head being too big - I mean yeah, it's far-shortening and everything but still?

Update. 2/3 sketch of technomage in a more cartoony-funny pose, I'm going to do one more which is going to be dead serious and all spooky ^_^

Coloured version + some gear

Not happy about certain colour (particular backpack-thing, want to change it to worn out copper) And a lot of work on details and staff.. still planing to do a more hardcore version of technomage character

Updated some stuff.. not sure if I'm going to spend any more time on this one - unless I will do a brand new painting with this character but with a suitable environment and more in a more dramatical pose

The greyscale wasn't too bad, but I'm not really feeling your current colors are working as the best skintones. It's a big muddy and red. Also, this guy is outside right? So he probably needs some sharply defined drop shadows all over himself. That'll really make him pop. Way too many crazy striations under his peck and on his neck too. I also think he could use a few more high tech gadgets/clothing/accessories to really fill him out as a character.

Nice work so far though!

Thanks for pointing out these areas, will do more anatomical drawings with a larger brush to get a better grip on anatomy and poses. As for the skin tone I was trying to achieve something that was exposed to the sun and wind a lot - but didn't use references which is emm..
Thanks again, I better get back to work

Hi,

Haven't posted here in while. Here are some new stuff I've been working on.

And here are three important stages:

Clean drawing

Hard shadows

Basic colour

Afterwards - texturing, polishing and doing nice light effects.
All this i've learned thanks to this tutorial (russian version only I'm afraid) - http://karanak.livejournal.com/56756.html#cutid1
Really cool artist, check out his gallery for inspiration - http://karanak.deviantart.com/gallery/

some great stuff! I like that you are leveraging the power of 3d in some of your technical drawings. Your painting could use more blending and larger strokes. It looks a bit like every stroke is made with tiny dapples currently. I was always taught go LARGE then small. looking forward to more.

TeriyakiStyle ,suburbbum , thanks

You're right about larger stroke - working on it Used to do drawings, so painting is still new for me - trying to learn these things through speed paints, hopefully will see results soon.
