HI! I’m starting off this sketchbook with a couple of practice sculpts I did recently using Sculptris. Let me know what you think.

These took an hour and thirty minutes to sculpt and paint each. I’ll try to do at least two of this kind of sculpt a day. I think that will help me improve faster.

This being the first post in my digital sketchbook I thought I’d make it somewhat special.

That gorilla sculpt is ace, I think you really captured the feel of a wild animal while still adding in come character of your own.

I made some sculpts after the ones of the master sculptor Jordu Schell. His website has a lot of cool monster sculpts. It's a great source of inspiration for me.

wow, great stuff. Loving the last set of busts. Very creative.

A bunch of my classmates and I had the chance to meet Jordu last year. He came to our school and gave a nice little sculpting demo and showed off his design process. Pretty cool guy.

Keep up the good work

Hey! Thanks man! Jordu is awesome. The last busts are just copies. Hehe uyou lucky guys. Anyway here's something that I did after a digital drawing. Not really finished but good practice. Made a bunch of heads also. I'll keep at it. I'm going to take care of that workshop piece soon.

So... I'm starting a series of busts of celebrities and important people. First one is Will Smith. The reference used is from the movie Seven Pounds. I think i was near but not there with the likeness.

Julien Noel - I'm glad u like the sculpts. hehe All sculpts are made in Sculptris.

I entered the Character Forge3d challenge at CGHUB(History's Villains). I made a bust of Joseph Stalin. Here is the sculptris file u want to check it out. http://www.sharecg.com/v/52110/view/...el/Stalin_bust

I finished my entry for the Creature Planes challenge(Classic Monsters) on CGhub. I chose the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Zbrush Sculpt:

I then went and made a low poly and made a normal map.

with diffuse:

The polycount is rather big for a model like this. It is around 13 000 tris. I didnt spend time on optimizing it. I know I could have taken it really even lower.

and some fun, being silly

The Stalin sculpt is fantastic comrade!

Do you have alot of experience with the other sculpting programs besides sculptris? I've only ever used Zbrush... Zbrush is powerful, but the interface and the workflow is really awkward at times...

PS its clear you have a good understanding of anatomy and that you practice some type of life drawing or portraiture. Good stuff!

Thank you! I know Zrbush and Mudbox. Both are really good apps. You are right about zbrush's interface and workflow. It was hard to learn at start but after a time it becomes easier on the brain. Mudbox is a lot easier to learn. It took me a few hours to go from navigating and basic sculpting to baking maps and texturing. Anyway the stuff in my sketchbook are in sculptris because I like the program, mainly because of the care free sculpting. It offers a lot of freedom for sculpting and concepting. I will start a few more serious projects and I'll make them in Zbrush, like I did with the creature from the black lagoon. Anyway still rocking with Sculptris for now just for fun. For serious stuff I use Zbrush. About me understanding anatomy... I try to use reference as often as I can. I mean i do anatomy studies on the side, mainly learning the muscles of the human body.

Anyway here is a quick sculpt using Sculptris Alpha 6.
