created TF2 - Polypack - Swizzle (2)
on 06-05-2010 12:08 AM
Since I'm pretty much finished with the Medic pack I made and there are still a few weeks until this contest is over, I've decided to start on a pack for a completely different class. Thus:
THE EXPERT'S ORDNANCE PACK
Weaponry and accessories for your friendly neighborhood Demoman!
I don't yet have any concepts, but I decided that after nearly screwing myself because I couldn't come up with good designs at certain stages of the other pack, I'm going to be using more references this time around.
Here's a sheet with a few references I've picked up. I have a ton more where these came from, but they should give you an idea of what I want to make.
The plan at the moment is to have a modified M79 grenade launcher for the primary, a potato masher for the melee (probably also modified) and a helmet similar to the ones bomb disposal guys wear. I'll get some concepts and stuff up ASAP. Meanwhile, it's getting late and I'm going to sleep.
BAM! Done. Well, pretty much done. I have a little cleanup to do in some areas, but I'm basically finished.

Awesome I was wondering if someone would make a M79 styled grenade launcher.

I'm liking the look of that bomb squad helmet Swizzle. That would really work well with the demoman! Reminds me of the Hurt Locker...

grenade launch=yes
helmet=YES
potatomasher=HELL YE...wait what?
do you mean those hand grenades, if so I would like to restate what I have said, many times over many forums, the the one melee weapon the demoman needs is...
A BOMB ON A STICK!!!
when in doubt, type kill in consol

I had a thought for a melee stick grenade :P
+ 500 damage on hit
- 95% damage to self

If you do a helmet, and or goggles. You know what it needs right? A design painted on the left side, cause he ain't gonna be using it for seeing.

This is no real issue, it merely means there is going to be a competition within a competition.
Let the best modeler win :3

CrazyChicken:
I actually was too, and now nex is saying there is one, and I'm all
Hotdogbunker:
The Hurt Locker was actually what made me think about doing it. I'm probably not going to do a straight bomb suit helmet, though, but I'll certainly use aspects of the design.
I'm not going to worry much about the gameplay application of the grenade. I'll probably make an intact and a blown-up version to use kind of like the broken bottle, but at this point I'm just not giving it any thought.
jgoodroad:
Potato mashers basically are bombs on a stick, so, uh, wish granted.
Zipfinator:
Thanks!
Zipfinator:
I'm thinking a big ol' crack in the goggles would work well.
ShadowBrain:
Adam said multiple entries were just fine.
nex:
I'm not super worried about there being a similar entry. I'm going to make my stuff, submit it, and let Valve decide.
Psyke:
Hopefully!
Simski:
It'll be a battle for the ages! Two men enter! Both submit stuff! Valve picks neither and makes them ashamed! ...Wait, hang on.
Pogo:
Thank you!
Right. I threw together some quick concepts for the grenade launcher. Thoughts?

1 or 2
Mostly 2 because of the silhouette. It is clearly different and not too crazy.

I like the flaregun/grenade launcher combo of 4, but 2 just seems right.

Number 1 and 6 are probably the most fitting. Agreeing with chickenman on the whole blunderbuss ends, bit gimmicky. It doesn't have to be flashy, just kaBOOMy

I kind of like the long profile of 3. Maybe take that lenght and add it to 6?

I like #1 and #6, but maybe throw in a little T2 gas-grenade?

I am liking 2, 4 looks a bit too much like the flare gun.
