Hi all, been a whille

Here is a new character I started working this weekend. This is actually my 2nd attempt at this project. First time I started in 2005.

This character project will contain:

Full character CG
Texture
Pose

so far I have a wip picture of the head, still a lot to do

update 2:

time to put some cloths on, hope to finish the sculp this weekend

Looking good, might to worth telling people those are alpha planes on the hair

The only suggestion I have is basedo n the advent children shots your face is a nats wing too wide at the cheeks, around the lips level to the sides.

Other than that, looking good. While playing FFXIII Fang gives off a very strong Tifa feeling in her style and colour.

it may just be the shadows but the neck seems a bit thick and or short. Looking at the ref its hard to tell since its all face shots but where you do see the neck it looks a bit more slender and more feminine. Also i think Tifa would have a bit more muscle tone, since she is a total badass. But its off to a great start ill make sure to keep an eye on this one.

also looking again i think her head is a bit rounder or more egg shaped. Although it may be that the hair mesh is just making yours feel narrow, or pointy so maybe a shot without would help. but overall the features seem to be on track namely the nose and mouth, its just getting the other stuff work together with it. Ive always found these types of stylized heads to be difficult in their subtlety

Tifa...soooooo hot!!

haha. Looks great so far. I can easily recognize her from the face alone, which is good. I might be a tad nitpicky, but it seems like her forehead might be just a tad more recessed than the references.

The body looks great as well. I'm kinda glad you went with more realistic proportions (read: not monsterous boobs) Seems like any artwork of her seems to focus on that.

Cant wait to see how she looks with her clothes!

The face and hair really capture her likeness, i'm gonna go back and wach the dvd again

A few small crits/tweaks:
Her thumb is almost to the tip of her index finger, and her wrist has a wavy/wobbly effect.
The shape of the toe of the boot appears symmetrical, maybe the heel too.
Her bicep could use a touch more definition, it forms a 90 degree angle at her armpit.

Theres something not selling it for me in the face... I dunno its almost like its too generic, or too American. Tifas Advent Children design had a hint of anime in the eyes and jawline.

Hey, there, Great Job so far!
Though I totally agree with what's been said about the forehead. And I things her nose "wings" are a bit wider as fasr as I can see.But one the whole body shot it's totally unnoticable. Really looking forward to seeing this finished.)

very impressive dude, im quite impressed by the clothes and hair since it looks fairly accurate and though i hate to say it, i kinda agree with the larger chest comment, or at least to make the ratio from chest to wait greater since lets face it, thatis kinda what shes known for lol, but still A+ work so far

thanks all, small update

Made a few changes in all the eyes, chin and jaw directions, moving from photoshop to zbrush and maya back and forth to match very close my Tifa's refferences

also started the texture of the head, here you can see a grab from zbrush

and started to texture the hair, here you can see a very close view of the hair form 3d studio max viewport

I'm goin to post a full head view with the hair this weekend still need to work the skin some more.

specular and such will bring more life into the character

Texture looks pretty good so far. I'm not sure how the eyes are in your references, but the irises of her eyes seem too small; as if she's looking into a very bright light source.

Proportionally she seems kind of short- perhaps it's the length of the legs.

Nice clothing details.

At the moment it looks as if her boobs are loose under the clothes. Take the time to push it all together before creating the clothing layer - you need to suggest that she's wearing underwear or at least a tight tanktop. At the moment it makes her look a bit like a grandma

Well you sure picked the right project if you want to zero in on fine detailing a character out right. Squeenix stuff is always so particular--the nice thing is that you look like you're pulling it off so far. Good luck on finishing her out to the same level of detail.

I actually feel the same. I think the shape of the head feels a bit wrong, the shape of the cheeks in particular.

I also think that her skin should be a bit brighter.

man it's great work, but tbh, she does not ring true to tifa at all.
Tifa is a super hot japanese girl in her early 20s... this chick looks like a eastern european girl in her thirties with grandma hair.

I suggest really getting back in there, get some references of japanese girls who look like tifa* (cosplays are great) , get that proportionality in the sculpt, and really knock it out in the texture and shaders..
put some makeup on her.

*cause modeling from a game model is just another layer of abstraction from reality; you want real world references when modeling realistically.

the model looks great, but i would rethink the textures. photosource stuff always has this creepy vibe to it. if you are going to use photos for textures, i shouldn't be able to tell. its very distracting.

made a quick check in my launch brake, it seams that the hair and forehead need to be much longer in sides to cover more the face. The jaw and the rest seams right.

Here is the result and the ref if I will change this asap, I'm opened for any sugestions

I agree with your notes, elongate the forehead some and pull her hairline back a bit. I also think the corners of her eyes close to her ears need to be pulled down slightly. Other than that, It looks outstanding.

I feel the eyes need to be a little more narrow and the chin a little wider + smoother. I also see a difference under the lip and chin area, between your model and the Tifa reference. Asians tend to have a more smoother look on their face with not many "hard" areas. Not sure if I'm just sounding crazy, though. ^^

Here is a small update showing the change in hair look and how the shape of the face mesh looks with a few lights. You can see the smilly face now.
Is still a big work in progress, cloth mesh is just a placeholder piece that has a plain color with a default material on.

err, so you're basing the design off an asian cosplayer?

I think the direction here is going well, and close to being a "true Tifa"

It's looking great! The eyes look like she's going to cry though. Too much excess water along the bottom there. Also, about the skin... it really, really looks like you slapped on some skin photo on her... something about the skin really really bugs me. Photosourcing skin gives strange results. Same for the hands...
