This is too awesome of a challenge to pass up! I'll be doing the "Akademgorodok Blast Furnace, USSR" from Street Fighter Alpha 3.

I'm not sure how exactly it'll be 're-imagined' but I am thinking something a little more grandiose. Perhaps it'll have a little bit of a steampunk vibe or something.

Good luck to everyone!

Changed my mind - we're both doing the same stage, just with a wildly different mood. I can't wait to look awful against your final result!

Hi, I figured I'd show a quick update. I'm currently blocking out the scene so I can get the main composition down. I know it's not much to look at, I hope to get a more refined blockout done this weekend.

Here is an updated blockout of the scene. The next step will be to start building some of the models and getting stuff into UDK.
(The paintover of the scene was done by my good friend Cory.)

A quick modeling update. Nothing special. I started adding detail to the small furnace thing on the right.

I've been waiting a day for my first post (my competition thread) to appear after registering, but I chose a Zangief stage as well ! (from street fighter 2, however)

Looks like were gonna be duking it out Thankfully I feel our work will be as different as it is similar.

Really like your stuff so far, specially with that awesome paint over.

I have started bringing some of my stuff into UDK. I know this shot isn't much too look at, but it's bedtime for me. I hope to get that main blast furnace into UDK by tomorrow night.

In an effort to keep myself motivated. I am going to try and post an image daily to mark my progress. In this pic, I have the main blast furnace about 90% done. I just need to add a bit more detail to break up some of the interior spots.

So apparently I lied when I said I'd post every day. Oh well. Anyways, here is my most recent progress. This has two of the more complicated components in UDK. There are a few missing textures, but other than that, Those two machines are about done.

Should be badass!
One question: those two objects are build of many static meshes ot it is a combination of static meshes + meshes with tiled textures? Im character artist, but anyway pretty interesting)

This is looking very nice! You may be planning on this already, but it would be cool to have the foreground platform with grates so light and steam can seep through the floor.

I really like how it's shaping up. I like the focus to the particles and effects in your initial idea. Can't wait to see them in the final.

Thanks for the comments everyone. This environment is a ton of fun.

@CapAmer1ca - The meshes are built out of a bunch of smaller modular meshes and tiled textures.

I feel like I'm actually making progress now. I got some more small stuff in there. I also am getting closer with the lighting (although it's not there yet). Anyways, here is today's pic:
