Right then, here's something I was wondering about recently.
It's not really an issue I need a desperate fix on, just something that'd be interesting to learn, and to see how other people go about it.

I was reading the ZBrush interview with Ken Scott, and this particular image was what jumped out at me:

Now, that's a screenshot from ZBrush, and there is an abundance of hard-edged, perfect 90-degree angled geometry and cylinders, pipes and stuff... judging by what he says in the interview, it sounds like Ken Scott does all of his work exclusively in Zbrush?

Just wondering what people think - I'd be tempted to say that the mechanical modelling there was done in an external app and imported into ZBrush, but then how was it all aligned and positioned correctly with the ZBrushed model? I'm having a hard time believing that the whole mesh there was made in ZBrush.

Anyone with any inside tips, enlightenment, or ideas?

I've seen another interview, where he says he does the inorganic parts in Lightwave. Can't find the link right now though...

Found it.. The Scott himself replies..

"Hey Zfolk!

Bruce's pipey mess is actually done in another app' (lightwave). Everything else mechanical, Mcneils dress, boots, and the orcs forehead are Z'd however.

http://www.3darttopart.com/ ...is where I had the cyberorc rp'd. The finish is a little rough/, but I can't gush enough about how cool it is to have your 3d model in your hands.

Glad you liked the work, promise it'll get even better.

Cheers,
Kenneth"

Also pinch brush is your friend A couple of minutes on a something organic can make it look quite mechanical.
