One thing that would really help with getting crits is having higher res screenshots. I kept trying to expand to see the details.

I would add more geo to the hammer; it's going to be seen up close and you don't want the illusion to break because you missed adding a couple of loops...

I would look into a real-time renderer (Toolbag 2 is my choice) for previewing these things. Static renders are nice but seeing the light play across the surface will give you a lot better feedback.
