I like the idea but personally I'd focus more on using nicer textures, etc. than lots of particles if only to stay within similar performance constraints as LoL, not only for realistic budget reasons...

Good luck! If you're only just starting VFX and especially in UDK, I highly recommend the ImbueFX tutorials by Bill Kladis. Really great starting point as I'm sure many on these forums would agree! :)

Yeah I had the same problem, didn't find a fix in the end so I simply keyframed the brightness and volumetric properties off when the sun reached the horizon :)
