Ok...so I need a big critique on this- please tear 'er apart!

Lit in -UDK,
-Around 80k tris total
Textures are generally 1024x1024, but smaller things are at 512x512

After the Dropship model I re did, I knew this was going to be my next piece I was going to push and polish even further...

I know a lot of things need work, lighting and FOV, maybe expand the work more into a "valley" type level. Also more objects and detail, overall construct the level layout better.

The idea is this was inspired by a Fantasy Action/RPG game, not any one in particular, I took some ideas from a lot of different games and mashed them together, but all in all this ideally would be for an action RPG game.

Anyways, thoughts/comments and critiques are much appreciate and needed.

Thanks.

Hi everybody, i have been modeling for about 5 months with some "breaks" between, but i think its time for my first enviorement.
I have been playing around with some sketches for the last two days of a couple of map ideas, and i came out with this one.
Its basically a misile lunch area hidden somewere in the forest, with some bunkers, containers, carates and some typical stuff. For this one i will be using UDK, it has proven to be just excelent

My goals For this project are:
*Getting started in the enviorement workflow
*Learn about UDK materials and particles
*Become a better artist
*Finishing It of course

Concept:
So far, this is the basic layout, i will be adding more stuff if its necesarry once i have blocked it out in the engine

References:
1)Bunkers
2)The missile silos themselves
3)The forest sorounding the Site
4)Containers
5)Dirt Road
6)Guard house, with a barrier
7)Container
8 )Crates
9)A hole in the ground where you can see some pipes

Okay, i will start blocking it out now, i will need all the comments and critiques i can get, so i can get the most out of it. Thanks for your time and patience :)

Hello everyone,

This is a level I'm putting together right now for a class. The class has very strict limitations on the amount/types of assets we are allowed to use, and it's due as a final next week. Right now I'm very happy with my assets, but it's not coming together in UDK how I anticipated.

It's a vast desert landscape filled with ancient ruins. Most of the inspiration came from ancient Persian and Iranian ruins like Persepolis, and various deserts from the region. I would appreciate any critiques on composition, lighting, color, level arrangement, or anything else that sticks out. Thanks! I'll post update as they come.

Again, very WIP!

This is a planning/navigation room for the officers of the spaceship.

Plans so far: holograms around the concaves in the wall, some control panels, seats, etc.

It's going to be as modular as possible, I'd like to have an actual small level by the end of it :)

Thanks for looking and in advance for any c&c!

Hey guys,

As some of you might know, I'm currently working with my small team on a fps game with rts elements named Warsoup.

You guys can try an early tech test here: http://www.warsoup.com/builds/dailyBuild.html

Or the older standAlone build: www.warsoup.com/builds/subD_11.zip (includes an early version of the 1v1 map we're planning for the vertical slice)

And here's a concept shot with the interface and stuff:

We're currently designing the weaponTiers for the plasmaBuild to finally replace the blocked out models we've been using and I'm struggling a bit with the design, so I thought I'd post it here to get some good input. The whole idea is this:

Every weapon has 3 tiers, for the plasmaWeapon it's plasmaGun, plasmaRifle, plasmaCannon - and every tier has 2 upgrade paths. We want to make sure that there's a little indicator, design-wise for each and every step in the build.

That was my first test, a little 'complex' in terms of forms, there's a lot going on, maybe too much for the stylized style we're going for.

Next test: What if we use a disc like object for the display?

Next idea: What if we actually use the disc not just for shape, but also for info? So the disc could become an indicator for health / energy by splitting that circle around the display in half and using the left side for health / right side for energy.

Next step: The disc sorta sucks, so let's go back to more angular forms for the plasma and use discs / cylinders for the railgun build.

Next one; What if we simplify the shapes and merge that part in the from, so that it becomes one bigger shape?

And this is my next idea: I'll take the turret designs that Johannes came up with and bring in some of the shapes we had there.

Could need some input on this - which version do you guys prefer, maybe some help from the weapon-maniacs here? I'm playing around with the forms but can't seem to really find the one design that just clicks right now. And the part that really increases the difficulty on this whole thing - design wise - is that there have to be 3 tiers and various upgrades that have to work with the weapon designs. So any Feedback is appreciated :)

Hey guys!
I thought I'd show you my latest project.
I started modeling this about 2-3 days ago during breaks between classes at uni.

This is one of the most difficult models I've modeled to be honest, and I'm not even done.
Been having some big problems with the proportions, even though I have tons of photo ref.

Please let me know what you think.
I know I need to adjust some proportions, but I don't know which and how. Something just feels off about it. ^^

Hi folks,

long time lurker and figured if I'm going to do this stuff I might as well get up here and mingle, probably give ya a cheap laugh or two with my "skillz". Anywho, male musculature anatomy, so that my human forms aren't attrocious. Maybe pound this out and start playing with some hard surface modeling for armors (but that is down a ways I think). Character modelers...rip me to pieces...seriously.

Reference:

Tried out zBrush, awesome program, considering I've used rhino and 3dsmax.
Anywho, tried zSpheres, but lost proportions along the way. So opted for a simple armature (the first mistake was arms were down at the sides) and zSketched it all out, proportionally better.

Mesh1

Yeah...armpits are in trouble, not entirely sure how to clean it up without just simply going back to scratch. Won't touch hands/head/feet 'til the body musculature is in there.

Took another swing at revamping the abdominal, smoothed out the shoulders, played with the forearms.

Mesh2

Comments, critiques, and anything you feel like contributing i.e. "you're terrible". Going to be updating this as I get on it.

Hey Polycount,

I have been working on this model on and off for a few weeks now, and I thought I would finally post it and hopefully get some C&C.

Background on the model: I am a character modeling student, and this is my first attempt at taking a ZBrush sculpt and making a character game rez. This is my 2nd real attempt at a ZBrush sculpt as I have been only using the program for about a month and a half.

I wanted to do a "normal guy," because every one says normal people are the biggest challenge. After starting out with just a normal guy, to be honest I got a little bored and I decided he really needed something to jazz him up. I decided to go for the "1%er biker look." -- (If you don't know what a 1%er is, they are the bikers that consider themselves "outlaws" therefore there is only 1% of all bikers who live by this code... gangs like the Hells Angels and Banditos are "1%er bikers.")

This then reminded me of the Lucas Art game FULL THROTTLE and I decided I had to make this guy part of the gang from that game.

This model will be textured to look like a "Polecat" from Full Throttle. This model is fan art and something I have done to simply practice my skills. I hope you enjoy watching the process, as I will update this post as I go.

Thanks,
Bret

------

I have actually finished the ZBrush sculpt, here is my final look: *note, I understand that my anatomy is not perfect, and if it looks off to you please mention what you see. But since I have worked on this sculpt for awhile now, I have decided to just go with it for now with the purpose of saving time. I want to have this done in the next 2 weeks.

Please let me know if you would like to see close ups and I will post close ups on my next update.

I just finished game rezing this guy today. I have him at about 30k Triangles. After cutting the UVs, I did a quick normal map bake of the model. Here is a quick screen cap from a Marmoset render. This is with out any normal map cleaning at all.

My to do list is now to clean the normals for artifacts and of course texture. I will also be adding hair with grids. (something I have never done before)

I plan to give him hair like this guy: All credit to Naughty Dog of course in this image. :)

And here is the biker emblem that will be on his back, in-case you have not seen the infamous Polecats!

Thank you for your time Polycount, I will hit you with an update when I have one. Cheers.

Dynamic Head Base Meshes

Hello all. Just posting some progress on a project a friend and I are working on.

Hello all. Just posting some progress on a project a friend and I are working on.

For our game, we plan to have dynamically loading heads and hair for the various henchman and city folk walking around. One way we plan to save on data requirements is to have groups of characters (for example, big tough guys and small wimpy guys would be two different groups) use the same mesh for their heads, with each character being randomly assigned one of many pre-made shape keys.

For right now, I've been tasked with creating the base male and female head meshes, and I've just completed the male.

The idea behind some of the topology (for example, the end of the nose and chin) is that those areas can be pulled around and extended or otherwise distorted without causing hideous stretching or other common problems. Despite the base mesh being rather realistic, the game is meant to be rather cartoony in style, so we'll need the ability to make some exaggerated features in our mesh variations.

I'll post some of our results later; for now, here's the first base mesh, front and side. Despite the dodgy wire frame, there are no n-gons in this mesh. Everything is quads except for two triangles on either mouth corner, and one on either temple.

Comments are welcome, though no further changes will be made to the mesh (already started work on the variations at this point). :)

I have another project going on which I would like to show so far in todays snapshot.

My current job is to produce 7 city buildings with complete props and city set like pavement, vendor carts and so on. Goal is to take some beauty renders to show the capabilities of the engine as good as possible plus what can be done from an artistic point of view in a given timeline. Final images should look like a street in Afghanistan and all assets should be extendable to produce a mission area later.

At the moment the building texturing is done but misses a complete decal pass with dirt and grime plus the street stuff and props of course. I'll also try some GI pass at the end of the project and see what I can archieve. For the moment I'm doing attachments for the buildings and distribute them.
I have one and a half week left until deadline.

I need to do a lot of cables along the buildings and use splines but a more automated manner would be cool too. The Soulburn scripts (or was it haywood, hehe) have some Wire script which is nice but maybe more for longer wires. I also tried reactor but it looked a bit strange. Maybe I'll mix the three methods a bit until I doscover a tool with a "make-a-nice-cable-button".

I use Leadwerks Engine again for this project which features pureLight now, so 'll test it against Mentalray baking workflow.
