Recently alot more people have been streaming their work, and it's fantastic. being able to see others as they work is always a great learning experience. I thought we might do with a centralised thread for streaming discussion and to share channels. I figure also if people post in the same thread when they start streaming, it stops small 'I'm streaming!' threads from being missed.

Everyone I've seen stream on polycount so far has been using Livestream, which upon closer inspection, I have decided kinda sucks. As far as I know, there is no way to follow a channel, or get an alert when they start streaming. There doesn't seem to be any way to broadcast in HD without paying out the ass, and the transition to the 'new' livestream seems aimed at large scale productions, not bedroom broadcasting.

I've been looking around at alternatives and Justin.tv or twitch.tv seem to be good sites. They're very community orientated and feature HD support. Twitch.tv is solely a game streaming community, but have said they allow streaming of game development. It would be easy to stream under the game title 'polycount' for easy organization.
edit: Just noticed another bonus from Justin.tv - It's forum embeddable! But that's getting ahead a bit :P

So basically my biggest issue with Livestream for me is the quality, you can't see the settings someone uses, or fine details, and considering we are all artists, these things matter alot. I'm messing about with justin.tv settings now to see if I can get a HD stream, I'll post the results in a bit.

Post your streams here and I'll put a list in the OP!

I really like twitch. Pretty easy to use and integrates well with xsplit!

Also I'd love to see a wellplayed.org for game art :D if anyone feels up to the challenge.

I signed up for twitch.tv mainly to be able to chat, but I've been toying with the idea of streaming a 30m-1hr thing where I'd animate something game related.. so yeah, if some people get streams up I might follow ;D

I have to say that twitch/justin.tv have the best quality, but I have to disagree with ZacD.

For me livestream always seemed to be more acceptable with the 'questionable content', because you see much more of that stuff over there.

I also have seen a stream going down twice in justin.tv because someone was drawing a bunch of females that weren't fully clothed.

I don't know why, but it could be that if some trolls decide to report a channel it just gets taken down for 'review', because the channel always was back up shortly after the ban after the admin wrote an e-mail to the justin.tv support.

I'm just talking about personal experience here, could be just a weird worst case scenario though. ^^

Twitch has stated on their FAQ that they will take down pornography instantly to remove it from the site asap, but explicitly state that nudity is allowed as long as it's not for the sake of pornography. Nude sculpts should be fine, but it might be worth messaging a mod, and avoiding pinup art.

Twitch and Justin are part of the same company, so I'm not sure if the rules differ, but if they do, I guess its because twitch know to expect nudity in several games.

Wierd, I went to edit my justin.tv channel, and it's now a twitch tv channel. Don't know if this is automatic for a 'gaming' channel, or if its because of a moderator moved me. Oh well!

Oh god. I just sent an email to twitch.tv asking for policy clarification with some links and explainations. I marked the WAYWO thread as safe for work...

...and then notices the penis helicopter on the first page of it after I click send. Welp.

Edit: Answer! Not any more clear than the FAQ, I'm going to interpret this as no nude pinups or pornagraphic details in your work.

Hello!

Thanks for contacting us about this.

Twitch is for game related content, and there are some 'non-gaming' types of content we do allow as long as they either have something to directly do with gaming, or aren't much of a venture off of the topic as a majority. 3D art of game characters, or for games is certainly acceptable!

When you are sculpting 3D art, we are well aware that something can look like pornography before it is textured, but actually isn't. All you need to keep in mind is that if you are ever going to start something that crosses the line into pornography, please refrain from streaming it. If you need to carve out a 'breast shape' for a female character so clothes can be molded over top, that is fine. If there is ever something you are not sure about, feel free to contact me about it first for answers!

Great idea! There are a decent amount of Vigil Nights ones for the past that you can still watch. Worth posting up there.

All added. I wonder how hard it would be to make a page that listed these streams, and put little 'live' icons next to those online. something something Ruby, something something API.

I do this too, all the time, but with Google+ Hangouts. Then, a bunch of folks can join up and share screen. So it more of a streaming art party. Except ZacD, he plays video games or just talks, which is cool too.

There should be an official Polycount steaming night. Where we all big in share progress maybe have a theme for the night. Imagine like 300 or 400 PC members all together making art.

I like how there was a discussion about how Livestream is inferior and then every stream posted is Livestream. Is there something particularily easy about it that makes people want to use it?

I've got everything set up for smooth 720p streaming but I don't know if I'll stream anything in the near future.

All added!

Yeah I think it's because livestream was around first/alot more popular than others a few years ago. I'm tempted to become an annoying justin/twitch evangelist who harasses livestream users to jump ship.

I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING ITS ALL FUZZY Y U NO HD!

These links are great, but I wish there were more consistent content; a lot of channels have only 1-2 vids archived.
If you're discouraged by low viewership, try posting your stream on teamliquid.net; it's a pretty popular gaming community that typically publishes listings of streamers for RTS and MOBA games, but I think anything game-related is allowed.
If you're still considering streaming, please do! Newer modelers like myself would value them a lot (even if there is no voice commentary)!

Would be cool if Polycount took team liquids approach of streams and put them to the right of the webpage if they're streaming or not. Maybe that's a little intrusive though but I wish there was a way to check if any of these streams are live within one glance
