View Full Version : Chain mesh

Hi I've been trying to make a chain that will swing if you bump into it in UDK. I watched the physics tutorial on the UDK website and started to build it. so i have the basic mesh done and made into a physics asset but when I run the simulation it starts stretching out and the pieces start going all over the place. Just wondering if anyone new of a way to fix this. Thanks.

Sounds like the joint break threshold is too low. Or you've got overlapping physics volumes in your physics asset.

Will disabling collision help with that?

It would be a bit pointless to disable collision on an a physics asset.
Perhaps if you posted an image of the setup it would be easier to help?

The first image is the mesh without the simulation, the second is with the simulation and you can see it stretching out. Sometimes it doesn't go completely all over the place but it still stretches down like rubber.

First go through and scale all the physics volumes so they don't intersect. When they intersect they'll immediately try to get to a position where they don't intersect. The force of this may break the joint among other problems.
If that doesn't work make sure that the joint is position limited.

Awesome thanks a lot, I just made 10 bones instead of one for each link in the chain which helped break it up. Thanks for the advice.

Added twist limits? Added Stretch limit?

I didnt see any stretch limit but i did add twist limit.
