Warning: Long post :P
Update 24/03/2012: Almost done! Realy happy with the look of the axe. Might still need some tweaking here and there but overall I'm happy with it.

update 24/03/2012: Working hard to get it done on time! Finished the low-poly work. it clocked in at 1684. Projection had some issues, most of them I've been able to fix, Hopefully the others don't matter as much since there's no time to redo it.

Update 3/22/12: Very busy lately, but I've finally finished the detailing pass. No on to the low poly/unwrap/texturing pass! Feedback would be welcome!

Update 3/18/12: Another Update! ME3 finally let go long enough for me to work on the axe again. It isn't completed yet, some parts need some extra details still. But there is clearly a direction here. Any and all comments are welcome!

Here are two idea's I've been playing with. Despite my lacking drawing skills the idea comes across well enough. The left one is Angelic and the right one is Crow Temple.

Any crits would be welcome!

The Crow Temple is standing out to me a lot. Maybe if there were more feathers to form a more solid straight axe blade? Right now it looks like the feathers are spikes. Or could be. haha.

thx, the spiky look was something I was thinking of. Though I didn't get the feeling I'd have the winning shape yet so I did some silhouettes. What shape do you guys think works?

I've decided to go with a combination of axes 4 an 9. I've refined the design a bit and painted a quick image of the axe. Crits would be welcome!

Had a few hours to work on the axe this weekend. Was having trouble with the design to get it to fit the Crow Temple style. So much trouble that I decided to redesign the axe into The Kingdom of the dead Style. I've been able to get a reasonable version built in 3D. Still some things to work out, so the model isn't finished yet, but you get the idea...
Any Comments or crits would be awesome!

I've been refining the design and this is what I've got. I've got some cleanup to do. And I need to readjust the polygon flow so I it will model correctly in zbrush. Still I thought I'd put in a simple scaletest rendered in Viewport 2.0. What do you guys think? Is it missing anything?

Considering how the weapon isn't exactly seen up close with a magnifying glass and the fact it'll be compressed at 512 suggests you'll get away with the baking errors.
You've made some good progress since you first showed the concept. Keep updating and we'll help you perfect the design. I'm interested in seeing the texturing.
/edit, well that post popped out of nowhere. That's actually a really nice set of colours you've chosen. Got no crits from me, my fav part is the hook like shape at the bottom. Oh and could you use a different background besides black, it makes it hard to see the overall presentation.

Hey thanks! I'm going to present it with a black bkg. This is just a screencap directly from UDK. :)
edit: I'm NOT going to present it with black :p
