This is a Work in Progress of an environment based on the Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_Savoye

Trying to use UDK for architectural visualization. I started this I think in August, and I've been working on it since then.
I modeled everything in 3D Studio Max, and worked my textures in Photoshop and ZBrush. I used a couple plants and rocks that were already in UDK but all the rest is all mine.

I just wanted to show it to everybody.

The objectives of the exercise were:

1: Learning the basics on the creation of assets and levels with this engine (packages and organization in UDK, materials, kismet, matinee).
2: Learning to organize myself while creating such a big and complex environment as this was (the source files of all of this is like 800 files). You can rather try to keep a clean and organized folder tree and use a naming convention or go crazy.

I think I succeded in both. I (more or less) finished. I mean, you know... you can always go into further detail, but I like how it is now, mostly free of any bugs, stable framerate, no lightning errors, that kind of stuff.

I'm currently looking for a job, to move from Spain to anywhere... So if you need people contact me. I have 2 years of experience as programmer/technical artist, though I'm trying to get something mostly 3d art-related because its what i really like.

This is my blog and where I'm posting anything I do from now on:
http://idonotcode.blogspot.com (http://idonotcode.blogspot.com/)

I would like to hear any comments, critics and questions you may want to ask.

Peace!

This is looking really cool. Can we get some interior shots too?

I posted a video on youtube, I think you missed it, it was at the top of the post. Is there any way to show it embedded on the post?

Looks real nice. Interiors look great as well. Doors inside seem a bit narrow, but that might be how they are in real life. Like the trees and grass too.
Are there many jobs for architectural visualization in UDK? Nice to see someone in Arch vis that hasn't overloaded the scene with a huge polycount! ;)

Well, I don't work in Arch vis, I only do games. But my brother is about to end Architecture in the college and somehow gave me the idea when he showed me some similar work on youtube.

I thought it would be a good idea for practice. Its my first UDK level :)

really nice work, I like the idea to use udk for realtime architecture visalization !

What popped up for me were the blurry surfaces. Maybe you could increase the resolution of the lightmaps ? or are you runnning into performance issues there ? or is it you just did a preview-lightbuild ?
I think improving your lightmaps could give your work a much more polished look...

You are about right. Well, I rendered in production, but try to keep my lightmaps as low as I could to speed up the renderings, I thought resolution was more or less good, but if it popped up for you I might have to increase then for the next versions. The only problem its that light baking takes a lot, so I have to do it during the night (1 try a day!)... It was more than 4 hours with this quality, I use a laptop but its quite a good one (alienware), i7 and all.

Thanks!

Hey, you know what? the composer is a friend of mine. He's got plenty of awesome open source songs at his website: http://www.sectoidwebsite.com/

And well, he does video game music of all kinds, you can find plenty of different styles there you can use for your own projects! From metal to medieval like folk songs. Check it out, everyone, it's amazing...

Thank you for the music link.
Nice work and regarding the video have you tried messing with the occlusion settings?

You mean screen space ambient occlusion? Not much, to be honest. I left it activated but in quite a low value. It's there if you notice, but i thought a stronger effect was really ugly.

Hey I just wrote a paper about this place for my history of architecture class! I'd never heard of it previously, but it's definitely a cool building. Great reconstruction, this looks awesome.

Well, when I started, it was nothing to me, but towards the middle of the project I started to be aware of its beauty, as I was discovering and building every detail. Very beautiful, when I go to Paris, I shall visit it.
