yo, I feel kind of silly posting a showcase ontop of rv_el (http://www.polycount.com/forum/member.php?u=13939) and Kevin Johnstone (http://www.polycount.com/forum/member.php?u=13813)'s amazingness but thats life.
First off, heres a tutorial I just made up about using a method found during this project.
Its not even a method really its just an explination of a brush that seems lesser known (or at least I didnt know about it)

ok, so heres the shots of my porfolio, if you looked at it in the past months you've already seen these.
Thoughts are encouraged, thanks!

Nice! fantastic sculpt and thanks for sharing man, i didnt know about that tool.
Awesome model and much thanks for the video, useful info. Usually I just carve the cavities into the mesh rather than trying to pull the strands out of it, this looks way faster though.
How did you paint the texture? Polypaint? Turned out really nice.

Ah. Really nifty and helpful. I had never even used that brush before, and it will serve my purposes well. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Thanks duders.
@Dii: its just a lot of AO/Cavity. one thing I did make sure to pay attention to was to do some localized color variation, so I tinted the arms a bit green, the body more red, and some blues all over.
but naah it was done in PS
When I was working on it I had no reference for the colors, so when the movie came out I was super excited to find out how well I matched the movie. It seems the movie version was more..... bloody shal we say?

He looks awesome, got all the proper "thing" forms. I like the idea of treating his extremities with slightly different colours. I think some extra variation in the specular would have been cool, he's very uniformly glossy at the moment. Things like the tentacles and his torn left thigh could have benefited from being shinier.
Awesome- very believeable anatomy-cool presentation!
Awesome work, and thanks for that tut.

Was all your detail straight from the sculpt or did you add any in PS?

holy crap thanks guys!
@: Jenn0: Right you are, I though to change the color of the spec but not the intensity.
also, didnt we work on DOTD together like 50 years ago? (Im Novaprospekt on the haus)
@: MrHobo, thanks alot man!
the detail was almost entirely matched to the sculpt, I just played with the AO and Cavity to make them pop as much as possible.

ohh, when you use it, thats the backtrack line.
NOT in Zbrush terms its snapping two points to the surface of your mesh to determine the angle that it will affect.
so its basically like building a road over a mountain range.
You can decide the straightest line between two points, and force all the "Mountains" to flatten down to that plane.

Hey, that sculpt came out great! I like the design, Is this the character you did for Neverdie?
Btw, the sword fencer lady's images on your site are repeated.

The render turned out great (is that Marmoset?), and the textureless sculpt makes me think of something from Federico Scarbini. Nice work :)

Hah, yeah we did, seems an eternity ago now though. I thought I recognised your Avatar from the haus, wasn't sure if it was just a coincidence though.
hmm really nice, and thanks for the tutorial ;)
