How would I go about measuring the angle of a polygon within an EditPoly if it has a weird angle (like 24.807 degrees) so I could align an outside object with that same angle?

I tried using the protractor tool, but that would not let me choose between two points within an EditPoly.

measuring the angle is a bit useless as most faces will be rotated on all axies.

This should be pretty simple to script. have a root about on Scriptspot and if theres nothing there I'll write a little script

If you want to align an object to a face try using the normal align tool.

:D or you could do the sensible thing listed above.

If I want to align an object to the surface of an object, I create a Helper with Autogrid and the align m object on the Helper.

I have a sloped wall and an outside piece that I want to have that same slope angle. Still useless?

I think the way I have done this in the past is to make a new working pivot and then align that to the surface normal. In local coordinate space the spinners at the bottom should show the angle you are looking for.

Alternatively you could measure some edge lengths and do a little math to figure it out.

I would also like to know how to get the angle in degrees of an edge in Maya.

wasn't trying to be hostile dude, just saying measuring 1 angle of an edge probably wouldn't get you what you wanted.

didn't normal align work?

At the very least you could use the normal align tool on a dummy and get the angle from the properties of that object.

easy guys dont hate

yes measue the angle in max is not that easy but what I have done in these case is:

draw a spline from one edge to the other and then to the third point.

And then place this in the background and snap to it.

If that doesnt help post up a pic and we will get back to you .

I would also like to know how to get the angle in degrees of an edge in Maya.In degrees... sounds do-able. Of a single edge? What would be the 3rd point?

this is why i suggested aligning to face normal. atleast you have a defined plane.

Very true. I'll mess with it tomorrow night. Time for bed.

I don't really care about 3 axies, jut the angle from a side view. I find a ghetto workflow that works for what I want. The snap together tool set to face I can just snap a fresh quad to my angle and use that value.
