New banners

Hello!

It's been like... a year?... since we updated the rotating banners here at Polycount. There was a huge bug looming with the system that disabled any linking of the author names you see now. Well! It's fixed. Finally! So we'd like to get brand new banners up there and we're asking for your help.

Thinking of the last year or so we'd love it if you could recommend outstanding artwork posted here at Polycount you'd like to see featured in our banners. Links and reasons why you love the piece would be ideal so please, let us know!

~ Macro key shortcut. I haven't ever told anybody this before, but it's actually because a close friend of mine of passed away from breast cancer and there's no key for this (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Hl0xFV6eHyc/SsTyn2W5jwI/AAAAAAAAFBc/bjeeZCLT-mU/s400/pink-ribbon-breast-cancer-awareness-month.jpg). I agree on the Brawl winners. Those were amazing. Granted, there has been such amazing work in the WAYWO thread over the past year... I'd hate to see some of it go to waste! You should banner-up your own work, Adam! ;)

Snefer's Sci Fi Slum when it's done could be a candidate to.

Personally I like threads where the piece is iterated upon and/or the author explains their reasoning and workflows for doing things.

The stuff you guys post on the blog every week always has a few pieces that are good enough to be up there.

I'd prefer a massive amount of art cycling through those banners, rather than just a few chosen few.

It depends, WIP's are welcome if certain stages are completed, such as the sculpting. If a person finished the sculpting, why not put that up? Not everything needs to be low poly, painted and baked on PC (unless, it is, in which case, please disregard everything I said).

Shame your not considering WIP images. I think well presented concepts and even some model and wire images look awesome. Sometimes better than the final result. Off the top of my head, Some of the stuff Tacit Math is doing atm is friggin awesome. And they are just silhouettes.

Brawl, Brink Guns, anything from the recaps really.

Heres an idea. Get us "polycounters" to create ONE banner each for an artist that we really like from the past few months. Then either admin chose a few or we have a little poll voting.

I agree with Stinger, there are some WIPs that can be standalone pieces if presented right. Someone mentioned earlier why not include sculpts? Finished, highly-detailed, polypainted(maybe) sculpts. Sometimes people don't take an idea past the sculpting stage and its a shame not to include them.

I actually agree with Aesir. I would much rather see a constant rotation of new banners, as opposed to a few select chosen ones. Not the top row like Zbrush Central has, though. But then again, having your work chosen is the highest honor one could get here on polycount, that's pretty cool in it's own way.

I think some of the stuff from the low poly thread would be sweet, them pixel pushers don't get enough love with all us normal mappers and zbrushers.

OH MY GOD!! How could I have forgotten. I remember when I first discovered UDK and stuff, and I was youtubin' UDK projects to see what I could do with it, and this was the first huge project I was introduced to. Diffidently banner worthy. I love that thing. Is he done yet?

No no, there are a lot of people that use the banner as a giant "home button". If you want to get to the artist profile you can click the link to the art, then click their name in the thread.

Really? I've only looked at that page like 3 times ever. I just have General and P&P permanently open in tabs. That way I can just F5 them and see what's up.

We must able to see ENODMI's work wider than this.Because the banner doesn't feels the a pack of creatures rushing trought the gun storm which makes this work awesome.

Same for Hydizors work.His models,atmosphere and item placement are awesome.This shot is also cool but don't you guys think that his work worth a screenshot from wider angle?

Narrow angle shot from Spitty's work is still looks awesome-tastic but if we haven't seen his work before,we couln't recognize he is the 'superman'.

For the character works,please look at the last years work.Nice full figured shots from a few angles and a big close-up shot from the coolest part of the character(that means the ass for the Cammy,right?)We should keep this format for the new character banners imo.

For the JordanW's work I think a wider frame that contains the wetty surface would be REALLY better then the current one imo.

And also as Aesir mentioned I'd prefer to see massive amount of work on the rotation because there's too much awesome banner worthy work there and also it would be much more refreshing then current one.That wouldn't hurt someone either.

the prob with teh cammy is that its close-up and in-your-face. there's no space, like the firstkeeper one or the gunslinger. In the atmosphere of this forum, this context, it just doesn't work

Another thing that's a bit annoying, but not a big deal, is that some of them open up in a new window, and some load up in the same window. It would be better if they all loaded up in the same window, that way you get to choose. Can click for that, or middle-click to get it in a new tab.

For instance, Spitty's Bizzaro opens up in a new window/tab. Hazardous's Valkyrie opens in the same window.
