I want to have some opinions. This is not a thread of what software is better. I just want some opinions.

I learned 3dsmax at my faculty , i can use it, i can produce art , but i just cant like it.
I`ve become interested with softimage , but what am i seeing is that autodesk isn`t taking a good care of softimage.

I pretend to be a 3d modeller, didn`t decide for environment or character or prop, but do you guys think that in the future i`ll be limited for the very small support to softimage or i should just learn the software i like and feel more confortable?

personally i say use what you like and what feels right but try to keep some on what most of the market and studios are using.

im kinda similar to you i started with 3ds and fucking hated the app than moved over to using a combination of maya and silo.

I see a lot of people waste a lot of time feature chasing and app switching, when the bottom line is that most of them simply need to stop blaming the software and start investing more time into practicing their craft.

What don't you like about Max? Personally I think that if you're already elbow deep into learning 3D in Max, I'd just stick with it. Switching to XSI or Maya won't make modeling substantially more (or less) easy. It will only slightly alter the workflow from what you're doing now in Max.

Also, if your goal is to get into the games industry, Max still dominates. My gut tells me it's something like 60% Max, 30% Maya, 10% XSI.

+1 Million to this point. I fell into the trend Dustin is describing for a while and its dumb and expensive. I can say with 100% certainty that a year down the road you will be finding problems with things in XSI. Its easy to get into the mentality that its a problem with the software and not your ability to just get shit done.

A much more positive and constructive thing to do would be to post what pisses you off about Max and let more experienced folks offer solutions or perhaps offer alternatives.
