They look like good tutorials but their prices are a bit exaggerated imo. $40 for a 2hr texturing tut is a bit bonkers. Eat3D might be $20 more on average but the tutorials are far more in depth, cover a broader range and offer far more content per purchase. I might give some of 3Dmotives cheaper tuts a go, however.

looks really cool, defiantly something to considering picking up, though $40 stretches my budget a bit at the moment

Nice one! But a bit expensive for 2 hours.

It's the substance that matters, not the amount of quantity...

I like the act that they are short. I usually only still pick up smaller things, and don't need things to be hugely in-depth and slow. I've been buying most of 3DMotive's latest releases, inlcuding this one as soon as it came out. Been pimping it elsewhere too, big up to Alec!

(and like i've been saying, makes me wanna get off my ass and do Dozer Pt 2)

Nice one! But a bit expensive for 2 hours.

movies(dvd/bluray) cost more i think.

39$ (27€) is really not that much, I've wasted more money on meaningless stuff before! ;)

I still think this kind of teaching / educational websites should have some sort of discounts for students tho.

Edit::
Can I get a bulk order discount? How about an educational discount?
Yes and Yes! You'll need to contact us at support@3dmotive.com and we'll get you squared away. For qualified student and faculty members, we offer a 20% education discount.

Ah, good to know! :)

yeah, I don't see it as being expensive. It's also 2:45 not 2:00 and with the video I was really trying to provide an approach that people could take away and use in their own work.

You don't really need to defend the video, I have bought it a few jiffys ago, and it made every single extruded part of my male hyper-masculine body stand up like soldier on a hot day on Bikini Island.

It's good, gets to the point, isn't monotonous and for the shortness, serves everything possible in a decent time. Sure, as with everything else, apart from TubeTops, its not perfect, and there are parts that could have improved, but it very well stands on itself.

Not to slap anyone here, but comparing this video to Digital-Tutors and most of Gnomon videos, it's a nice welcome.

I've opened up the max file that comes with the tut. Is there a reason why the Gamma & LUT settings are enabled and set up to 2.2 instead of the default 1.0?

AlecMoody

that's probably from when I was doing some renders on the high poly. It shouldn't affect dx/viewport shaders

[HP]

It actually does, that's why I asked. Looks brighter (obviously) and somehow even the smoothgroups look different (though that might be 3PS shader bugging out cos of the gamma changes), and I was just wondering if you did that part of your workflow somehow.

Alright, thanks.

This might have changed in newer versions of max but in 2010 it wont affect directX type shaders. If you are seeing it change when its toggled you should turn it off. The scene file I was painting in and showing in the DVD does not have the gamma correction enabled so having it on in the provided scene is a mistake.

sorry about that
