Agreeing with others. You need to push the design more, I don't think a change of clothes is enough. I was going to do Confederate Cammy (or Union) in US Civil war uniform with the typical civil war cap. You can have that idea if you like ;P

I think the point of this competion IS to find a way to reimagine the character WITHOUT losing the main feautres that make him/her who he/she is. The point of it is to analyze a characters design and find out what makes them who they are, and why those elements are important, and then work from there to invent their own designs keeping the main "elements" intact. I think this challenge is amazing on multiple levels BECAUSE of the amount of thinking and analysis each participant has to do.

For instance for Cammy it's her red gauntlets, her ass, and a miltiary-esque outfit. For Siegfried (who I'm doing) it's the scar, the zweihander and knight-like armor with the occasional scarf or flowy thing.

The fun in this competition is playing with the design of a character, and to see just how far you can push it and make it recognizable to the viewer. In my opinion seeing how far you can push a character into another setting, how you handle the requirements that character needs to make them who they are, and then the technical aspects are why this competition has all the bases covered.

I agree. But at least he is not doing another steam punk version. Man, people today are kind of obssessive with steam punk. This will saturate this aesthetics in a blink of eyes.

Anyway, there's no way to go wrong whith Cammy, she's wonderful. and I'm sure this will be a great entry.

paintover to texture won't work in this case, this is going to be a nextgen model, with baking and stuff.

Yeah I think the Kotaku article kind of causes that confusion cause it says "3d model". Its why really everybody should read a full thread, including journalists and people inside the competition.

Easier said than done, I do agree. I have a hard time reading entire threads when a lot of the posts are "GUAH!!! O_o" or "Looks ok.. i guess" type of posts. So sometimes i'll get caught up and for a hot second i'll even think somebody's reference post is their final image when its actually somebody elses fan art, for reference :)!

The image is damn nice. I hope the final has a nice soft look like that and judging by previous work, it sure will!! and could probably trump these paint over images!

Wow, that is amazing work! I was just really curious about how you handled some of the details in the sculpt.

With the zipper teeth on the front of the jacket was that done by using a stamp/stitch brush? Or did you hard surface model that separately and attach it to the mesh?
The second question was with the pockets on the back of the skirt, was that sculpted and stamped in the original mesh, or were they modeled separately?

But for my taste she is a bit to pale right now. I bet you could give her a little tan:) If you'll decide to adjust the skin I think all the other stuff will follow along toward the more saturated look, which would be kinda nice, I think.

You could also turn the shadows on her skin more towards reds to emulate the blood underneath. I think you could use some more ao where skin meets clothes as well.

Maybe some hairplanes?

It's pretty obvious but just in case I hope you have time to set up some tinted light for final render because white light/black shadows look pretty boring.
Also where are you rendering her? UDK has some some subsurface scattering emulation - might be worth checking out. I bet it would work great with your character. If you have time of course.

She's supposed to be English and we are all pasty faced out here :P, we are lucky to get sunshine let alone be able to actually get a tan (usually reserved for nice holidays :P).

Astounding work though, when I first saw the model I thought it was just a paint over till I saw the flats, really is probably up there with the best I'd say.

I think the face is fantastic but I don't feel it's right for Cammy. I feel as though your character is young, inexperienced in combat, but has an intensity to her face because she is trying to hide her fear. I think the original 3d overpaint better describes Cammy's character. Specifically, i think it's the shape of the mouth and the plumpness around the corners of the mouth that give her a very youthful and almost dumbfounded expression. I think the lack of colour in her face also adds to that a bit.

Of course though if this is what you were going for then it's great.

The very vibrant color-saturation I take for artistic style reasons so thats okay,
excellent Character Art, even though I'd personally like it more with slightly less saturated clothing textures (would give that green a more olive character, more "brown" and maybe 15-20% less saturation, depending if its more geen oder olive).
