Is it possible to use the mia round corners shader in conjunction with a normal map. This would be for a render in mental ray in Maya nothing game or baking specific.

Never mind figured it out.
create bump node and plug a texture in to it
create a mia round corners and set a radius
connect out value of mia round corners to normalcamera of bump node
connect out normal of bump node to normalcamera of shader, or just drag the bump node to the bump slot same thing.

A summary from the wiki, fwiw
http://wiki.polycount.com/NormalMap#mental_ray_Round_Corners_Bump
"XSI is able to bake a good normal map with it, but 3ds Max seems to bake it incorrectly, and Maya isn't able to bake the effect at all. "
If you get something working in Maya, do tell!

Perhaps you can do I high to low transfer in Maya and bake a custom shader? I'm sure everyone has tried this but that would be the first place I'd look.
Have you tried it making sure 'Maya Derivatives' under Option > Performance of the Render Settings is checked and MR has the selected renderer?
