View Full Version : Explode Mesh?

I was reading up on the polycount wiki about occlusion baking and Joe "Earthquake" Wilson mentioned "exploding" a mesh, the high poly and the low poly before baking, I have tried finding the answer to this but I have no idea what exploding the mesh means.

Does this mean to scale it up or separate the object into it's individual faces? That's the best I could figure out but I don't see why you would do this before baking.

Here is the link to the article in question (http://wiki.polycount.com/AmbientOcclusionMap?action=show&redirect=Ambient+Occlusion+Map#Blender_Baking_Meth ods).

Thanks!

The picture in the first post of this thread (http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62921) illustrates this better than any words I could write.

Info from the wiki (http://wiki.polycount.com/NormalMap?highlight=%28%5CbCategoryTexturing%5Cb%2 9#Solving_Intersections) on the subject.

I like the animation method that I just "came up with" while baking my last thingy. Everything is in the same spot on frame 0, and on frame 1 they're wherever you want them to be.

Ohhhh, okay so if I only have 1 piece then I don't even have to bother with that, I wonder why these threads didn't show up when I searched the word "explode" on the forums :/ sorry for the extra thread and thanks for your help!

People need to stop apologizing for threads, and start apologizing for apologizing for threads.

Hope this works out for you. <3

Lol I seem to have a bad habit of apologizing! Thanks again though :)
