Hi everybody, I have a general inquiry about rigging characters for the UDK engine.I have searched all over and I haven't found any real answers on the proper way to rig a character for UDK. I have some experience building "film" rigs, just from what I have learned from Digital Tutors. These rigs I have built do not seem to be compatible with UDK and I am not exactly sure why, however I have had success rigging a character with max's biped and CAT rigs and getting those working in UDK, with some simple animations. Is using biped and CAT a no no , and just an easy way out? Or should I be learning another way to do this? Any information would be greatly appreciated :).

as far as i know.. you can generally rig anything however you want (i had tested a CAT rig in udk with a single animset and it worked), if it is a character tho, you will have to redo the animtree for it.. which can sometimes be a pain. typically ive seen people just use the ut3 rig for something real quick, tho the specs of your character have to match pretty close.

heres some links.

well I had the same questions not long ago, but I decided to do it with CAT for animation ease... because I'm trying to do a "not first person shooter" as Udk is set to be hahaha and tryied to match the animset and had a lot of trouble, now I'll have to endure the pain in the a** making an animation tree but I hope it pays off =)

oh yeah. if u do a custom rig the animset will be a bitch to redo. unless you know it VERY well.

Hey thanks for the links and input, I will also be going the route of the CAT rig as well, its going to work the best in the long run its seems.
