Sorry if this sounds ridiculously basic, but I'm using bootcamp to run 3ds max 2011 on my macbook pro and there's no DEL key as it's a laptop keyboard, fn+backspace doesn't work, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a solution other than to keep running on-screen keyboard..? :poly127:
Thanks, Ihazard

sorry i skimmed that one a bit quick. I using an MBP and max with that shortcut. you must have a configuration problem. does it work in other apps?

With text holding fn+backspace means that it just deletes things backwards not forwards like delete does, so no it doesn't, it doesn't delete things in other apps either

I have the same setup. My MBP has a delete key though. I use fn+delete and stuff deletes normally in Max. Mine is one of the unibody models, they may have changed the keyboard. I don't have a backspace key.

my delete key broke on my last laptop. I just re-mapped delete to a quad menu. You can do that through your customise menu. The command is listed as "delete selected" in the "All Commands" category.
I think that setup is actually faster than using the delete key as you don't have to move your hand to the other side of the keyboard!

That's a good idea, except now on the quad menu it just has 'delete selected' as greyed out and unclickable, argh.. I'll keep trying, thanks guys :)

I've had this problem before. This little registry hack was the answer:

dude, just remap delete. It's one of the first things you should do even if you do have the DEL key.
edit: remap to a KEY, not to a quad menu (come on..)

Something to keep in mind is that my keyboard was broken** and not all the keys worked. I wasn't sure which keys would work so I used the quad menu - you definitely could use a key instead.
Not sure why the command is greyed out. There seems to be several delete commands - maybe try restricting the shortcut view to the edit menu? Try remapping "delete objects" instead.
**I spilt a drink onto my laptop :(
