Someone should make a special title for for members if they get 500 or like 1000 post in less than a year. Something like "post whore" "poster of meaningless shit" or "Donkey wrangler" we've got a ton here on PC would be eligible for such a title.

the last just has a nice sound to it. :)

Feckin badass Hntrluc! Most excellent sense of mass on this guy. The anatomy's lookin real good but there are a few points that I think could use some work: The aponeurosis of the triceps (the single thick muscle that goes from the elbow and slips between/under the two triceps muscles on the upper back of the arm) should be a lot more beefy and defined. The bicep also looks a little weird, the horizontal stretch marks are kinda strange in that area since you dont see em on many other parts of the body. You might also want to push the overlap/intersection of the bicep with the forearm a little more, especially with this stylized anatomy. Right now the bicep ends so abruptly at the elbow and tucks in so deep it looks a little more like a flesh bubble than an ulta-ripped muscle of stylized devastation. Been trying to relearn my anatomy in case its not too obvious :)

Hope that helps, either way the thing is lookin great!

first 45 minutes of a longer study-- will give it another pass to fix a few proportion issues and really nail the contrast; avoided that until i got the shapes right. I think overall this will be part of a larger series of color skeletal studies. They're as much paintings and exercises in color as they are anatomical studies, but that's how i keep my interest :)

Makkon: Love it, has lots of character to it.

Work to show again, haven't posted work on polycount since 2001 probably.

The corbel is for a theatre I am building, it is based on one of the oldest neo classical theaters still standing, currently have a block out for the scene and doing my breakdowns for construction elements as I type.

Second is my early start for the SAF I am working on based on the work of the fantastic Kow Yokoyama, still so much detail I need to add to it and then the fun of adding the distress, looking forward to texturing time on this one.

Really nice sketch so far.

Some crit: As this looks like and adult skull. The sutures (gaps between the bones of the skull) are a little wrong. There isn't a suture at the centre of the forehead in adult skulls. The metopic suture is only visible in small children. I believe this later becomes the glabella suture. Which isn't really visible in a lot of the reference i've seen. Also the squamosal and coronal suture along the side of the head looks a bit unfinished.

I'm working on recreating a real location as lowpoly, in this case my parents kitchen ;) But I run into a little snag, there is a bunch of cabinets and they all have different sizes (13 sizes). Normally I would just stretch them, but cant do it here because of the the inset there is on them and how the texture is. Most of the wood goes vertical, but the top and bottom section is horizontal.

Any suggestions to how I get around that? Or am I, in this case, stuck with having different textures/normalmaps? Of course I could just compromise, but this is more about how to get the most precise result with the optimality version. So far the cabinet lids are at 20 triangles and works quite well with a unique normalmap/texture.

You can see how the cabinet is broken down into individual panels. You could make the wood for those individual planks tile, and then cut the geometry up and move it around as you need. You would have to have a seam on the diagonal lines though on the inset part, but that's ok because it's still a separate piece of wood in the 'real life' version.

Hope that made a little sense!

I think I'm finished with the high poly now. Modeling the lenses turned out to be pretty fun.

That is BEAUTIFUL detail you have there, I'm almost intrested to know if you based the model on just imagery or a physical object. The intracasy of it assumes it the latter, but tremendous work either way! When you say that the lenses were fun to model I presume none of the lenses ridges are textured on at all. Can't wait to see if a low-poly model can hold all that detail when normal mapped if thats what your planning on.

Did a small scene for OverDose for the camera to pan around while in the main menu. I had to do it all with materials and tris, so no brush work or particle effects as we don't want to use them in the UI for various reasons:

That is BEAUTIFUL detail you have there, I'm almost intrested to know if you based the model on just imagery or a physical object. The intracasy of it assumes it the latter, but tremendous work either way! When you say that the lenses were fun to model I presume none of the lenses ridges are textured on at all. Can't wait to see if a low-poly model can hold all that detail when normal mapped if thats what your planning on.

Thanks, I modeled it off google references, with this (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3039/2635898654_0729ba757f_o.jpg) being the main one. I moved my lights closer together for composition purposes, and I based the lens model off a more close-up image. Here (http://www.joshmarkham.com/Projects/traffic_05.jpg) is a closeup shot of the lens model. It's probably overkill, but hopefully it'll help get the specular to look right in the end. Starting the low poly tonight.

Nice work guys... Digging the helicopter Fewes! Though the color of the glass bothers me. Makes them look like metal plates rather than glass. Maybe make them darker and just let the spec/reflections do the work?

Here is what I am working on... I know we there are already sites like this *cough polycountwiki cough* but I still wanted to have my own that has things like tool/ scripts and such.

Would love some links from you guys if you have any to share. :)

Mr Bear : Barrel looks nice but has a little bit of mirroring in the texture between the shell logos that can just be painted out easily by the looks of it and would help a lot, also contrast between the bare metal and paint will help it pop a little more.
Not sure if this is the ref you are using but it has some great examples of detailing that could be incorporated to make it more believable and also a few more things that could be introduced to the normal map to help reinforce the texture.

joesolo : Very nice I can see it now Earth Worm Jim of WAR.
For such an aerobic character he misses a bit with such heavy legs but it works for your design well, should look a whole lot less evil when he has pupils too.

Hi,

this is my first attempt to create a male human character.
I wanted a thin max. 20 year old young man.

I am modelling in cinema4d.
After experimenting with lights and shaders i changed my scene and now i am working with the kind of lights you can see in these 2 quick renderings.
Simply because it looked nice and felt a lot better while working.

My issue.. if i turn the lights out (and theres only the editor light left) this guy looks soooooo thin and sick you can hardly look at him.

My question now, because i've seen a lot of characters looking kind of ugly without texturing (not that thin), but afterwards turn out to be really great is..

Was it wrong to model the way i did?
Will he look shitty in a game engine for example, where the light is not as in my scene?
Or does it really depend on my texturing afterwards?

Maybe you can give me some feedback too.

Kind regards from Berlin germany
B.

Got a bake done. It's sitting on more triangles that I'd like, but I'm having a hard time squeezing more out so I'm going to err on the side of detail.

awesome work, technically brilliant, but why so much detail? is the game so focused on traffic lights that you cant use something simpler? like some sort of game where you are a fly flyng around traffic lights?

The service is fine, but I think they are blocking certain providers or regions from viewing the images if you don't have an account with them. (I live in South Africa)

I could view any and all imageshack images last month, but mid month this month it changed, and all images I could see last month, this month all i get is that error image about unregistered domain. And the fact the error img is hosted on imageshack, leads me to believe it is imageshack doing the blocking and not something else.

Thanks guys. This isn't for a game as much as it is art for art's sake as well as an exercise in detail, but you guys are right about too much geometry so I'm squeezing it as hard as I can now. It was at 5229 tris before, but I just got it down to 3386. I still have some errors to clean up, but this is getting more into the neighborhood I like. Also, the edge loops around the middle are because the separate housings use the same texture.

FunkyBunnies: Fantastic work! If I had to give you any crits, I would say that the face bugs me just a little bit. Compared to the rest of the body it seems a bit too seductive for my taste. I feel that a more petite looking face with less exaggerated features would be more appealing here. But it all comes down to a stylistic choice I guess, so feel free to ignore my pointless rambling :poly142: Sweet stuff regardless.

Cremuss: I'm digging the atmosphere Cremuss, I love that handpainted stuff :D One thing sticks out however and it's the blending between the grass and road textures. Then again, I realize it's still WIP.

Axios: There is still some major optimizations that can be done on that light. The clips are one major place.

If you are baking this down those pieces are so small they don't have to have the gaps in the low poly. Making them solid would be just fine since once the textures are baked down, applied, painted, in game, etc not too many people would care or even notice.

Hello Polycount!
Long time listener, first time caller.

I've had this personal project rattling around for a while - here's an "Elite Dwarf Operator" I'm modeling and texturing. Crits and comments welcome.

Actually, I was also hoping I could ask for some help here with texture maps. I'm using xNormal to create maps from my Sculptris high-poly mesh for my low-poly mesh. However... I can't get my Diffuse texture I painted in Sculptris to map to the low-poly UVs. The other layers (Normal, AO, etc.) bake and export correctly. The texture layer is a flat red fill of the UVs. Any insight on this?

Thanks,
Attila

Jesse: Thanks, I put those clips together and dropped the polycount down elsewhere. If this were for an actual game, I probably wouldn't have modeled the low poly accessories to begin with. But here's my texture work for now:

http://www.joshmarkham.com/Projects/traffic_10.jpg

I'm trying to not to go too overkill with grunge, but I'm finding it tricky with nearly the whole thing being the same color. Overall, I'm feeling happy with the texture thus far.

Hold the phone. Robotic Power Armor Mounties? I cannot endorse this idea enough.

As far as general critique, idea is beyond solid, no question. His posing is awkward, though, and there is plenty of cleanup to be done. Sorry, but film grain filters don't cut the mustard. Also, the color work is flattening out the image. The whole thing still reads, but it can be improved.

Also, please don't feed the troll.

Glad to know my train of thought was on the right track. Good to get some fresh eyes on it before I get more involved. The mesh is all quads, unlike last time, when I had a couple of pentagons and triangles. The mesh also runs towards the ear, rather than being a stack of quads going front to back.
