Looks awesome. I'd like to see some more hardsurface-ish stuff on the suit though to match with the helmet. I was expecting a mech-like suit, but I like where you're taking it so far.

sexy SeanyEG - yeah, I know. Just sit tight you, you'll get your pr0ns when I say so. In the mean time just eat some shtovetop to keep you occupied.

I was thinking this was more of an under suit to a larger piece. I'm going to do armor next. The initial feel was to design an easy fit flight suit to go along with the helmet, but I'll make some armor I guess lol

But yeah, armor is on the way.

Crazy - If you want to start sculpting be my guest :)

Froyok - That shader is pretty freaking cool. As far as the animation goes for your character I think you just need to put more time into it. It's not a bad start, considering you got it working lol. That's the hard part. What are you using as far as a rig?

Cleaned some mocap after dinner tonight :poly136: (not super perfect done yet, the end is still kinda mocappy and wobbly)
Got some free mocap from http://www.bvhsamples.animazoo.com , which is the only free mocap website I've found which has data that I can actually work with.
The character (and joints and skinning) are from a Call of Duty 4 (or 3?) sdk I've got laying around in my sdk folder.

Got about 2-3 more mocaps I wanna clean on him. And then use it to show of some of dem mad mocap skillz, in an upcoming reel (LFW!:poly142:).

Waddaya guys think, the knees clip into the ladder right now..

fuk it, its mocap
fuk it, its game
dont fuk it, fix it because I'm anal

also got bored half way through and threw that little level together and pimped it out with some shadowzzz:poly141:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIwnShXD-hg

anyone got a site with some free mocap data for me?
I mean, the site I used for this, has great data. but theres not lots of it, and what they have is kinda boring... I've never seen a more bored soldier climbing a ladder on the rooftops of Iraq (or whatever country they are invading this month:\)

Rapunzles Tower C&C Appreciated :)
If you copy-paste round roofs 2 meter apart, at least rotate and mirror them.

The model looks decent (but can't really say without wires) but the textures can be improved a lot. For instance you've got seams everywhere and the materials do not look like what they should be, it all looks like plastic. Aside from that, I think you should go for a handpainted/cartoony look instead of photosourced - the tower has rather unrealistic shapes.

lol Jay, a render 1/2 that size would suffice. Try spinning the roof of the small room 180 to help hide the UV seem.

Here is an update. I am currently focusing my attention on the leg. The arms and tail have yet to be dealt with so don't bother critiquing those yet. I mainly want crits on the head and leg so far. I'm really aiming for top row with this thing and if anyone has some suggestions that will bring this sculpt to that level I would appreciate it. Without any further ado here is where I'm at.

I'd do the metal rims as separate meshes willy. That way you avoid extruding cuts you've made on the main barrel, which is really gonna add to your polycount, and also then you can rims with far more segments, which would give you a far smoother look.

i felt like building something busy to test that awesome unity shader editor by tim "stramit" cooper:

http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/56180-Strumpy-Shader-Editor-3.3a-Full-Unity-3.2-support-bug-fixes

the shader is something a bit different. it does the uncharted fringy transition thing via vertex alpha ! vertex-color colors the object (i also baked ao into the verts) but not in the damaged areas there it only darkens the objects (chipped away paint) ! but the really funny part is i use the second uv set to control how much self illumination/cubemap/fresnel/specular i want to have on a vertex! giving me control over a vast arrey of looks all in the same object/drawcall. and also allowing for insane re-usability of one and the same material drastically improving framerate in my scenes

if there is any kind of interest i can release the shader and the graph network ...

@Rogue One: I really dig the style of your alien guy. I don't really see any issues but I would suggest that you could chunk up some of the non-organic stuff. Things like the tube from the back of his helmet. In the concept it is thick and uneven, but in the mesh it is thin and a bit un-interesting. The same could be said about his cool little jetpack. If you thicken up a few things like that I think you will be happier with the over all look and vibe. He is such a cool little character, I am keen to see some more please.

I think the proportions are pretty good, but if you are really trying to nail the style, here are some ideas...

The feet flare out and have more curve to them.
The hoses are thicker and also taper.
The chest is missing.
And the top of the head also has a bit more concave curve.
The thing that looks like a flashlight (jet engine?) should be a bit bigger.
The teeth are pointed now in LP, but would smooth out closer to shape.

Overall though, it's a very fun character and I am looking forward to the finish.

Little scene I'm working on in UDK () for a contract! It's my first scene ever in UDK, so, any tips or feedback would be great. Still the plane left to texture, and then doing the final lighting (to add contrast in the jungle especially) and post-processing tweaks at the end.

Oh and should I be doing something special for my grass? The dark shaded parts make it look kind of meh (they're currently placed with a deco layer).

Don't use a decolayer, it only places objects on terrain verticies leaving really large gaps between static meshes. If you're using newer UDK builds that don't have foliage then I suggest you to use the static mesh tool. With it you can just hold alt + s and click on terrain (or on anything) and it'll place the static mesh you have selected in content browser and randomly rotate/scale it according to the values you put in the static mesh tool window.

hey man, looking cool. one way to get your grass to light a little more naturally is to manually adjust its normals. im no expert, and I dont know if there's a better standard, but what seems to work is dragging the grass plane's bottom normals so that they're facing straight up. For the upper plane's normals, have them facing roughly 45 degrees perpendicular to the way they're facing. What this does is make the grass receive the same kind of lighting that your terrain will be receiving.

Also, UDK does *something* (not sure what) to your asset's normals when you import them with the standard .ASE format. UDK will only use your exact normals if you import with the .FBX format, and the Explicit Normals tickbox checked when you're importing the model.

Looks cool, I'd keep a couple things in mind though, the grates on the ceiling feel a little too low poly, the bust light columns look nice. That trim pattern doesn't quite feel natural yet, it's a little too perfect, I'd try to break up the perfection of it a little.

I could produce a pic of such quality in about 6 hours and getting faster. How do you think guys. could this be considered as an actual concept in a work environment? and how fast do you really have to produce them?

Deceiver- I would definitely change the texture on the plane. It is reading exactly like the rocks that it is sitting on. Break it away from the ground and change the color of the rocks if you plan on keeping the plane texture color the same. It is also to noisy right now.

http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww5/TBR427/venturi_channels.png

I gave up on a small diffuser at the back of a flat floor and hit the town with a pair of colossal venturi tunnels. The idea is, at speed, it creates a vacuum underneath the back of the car, creating downforce.

It should be able to take a volume of high-pressure air roughly the size (volume) of a PSP at the front and expand that into a very low-pressure area the size (volume) of an original XBOX at the back.

Or, it will, once I smooth the damn thing.

EDIT: placeholder exhaust pipes for now, it's really the only place I could lump all four of them together.

If you copy-paste round roofs 2 meter apart, at least rotate and mirror them.

The model looks decent (but can't really say without wires) but the textures can be improved a lot. For instance you've got seams everywhere and the materials do not look like what they should be, it all looks like plastic. Aside from that, I think you should go for a handpainted/cartoony look instead of photosourced - the tower has rather unrealistic shapes.

appreciate the feed back :)

the roofs were modelled separately and its the normal map thats giving the seem :s but the hand painted texturing sounds like a nice idea il give it a shot, thanks :) appreciate it :)
